AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

I was in a club recently and my friend and I saw a cute guy in a wheelchair. I've seen him around at random events and always thought he was cute, so I finally got up the nerve to speak. I would have no problem dating someone that was confined to a wheelchair. What about you all? If you met someone awesome, would their wheelchair break the deal?

no. not a deal breaker, but if i had to deal w/ taking care of the person b/c they can't help themselves--then yeah it may be a deal breaker--but plenty of folks are able to live on their own w/ their supposed disabilities.
In theory no problem, GG76. Actually, I remember having this mutual crush on my best friend cousin, who'd moved here from Mexico City a long time ago. We were both younger and too shy to actually say anything to each other, so we never dated to find out if it would've worked out. Like Lesy said.....I dont' know if I could take care of someone who needed a lot of help day to day, but spending my time with some who is mostly self sufficient and we really are vibing with each other, that'd be good.

I remember this love scene in some movie I saw in early 90's about these two young disabled people who were falling in love against their parents wishes. They seemed to work it out okay even with both of them in wheelchairs.
Yea, I wouldn't be able to be with someone that I had to pick up or bath, but a lot of people in wheelchairs are pretty self sufficient. As long as he/she could take care of themselves for most things, I'd be fine with it. If you've seen the documentary Murder Ball...those guys seem to be fine. I suppose if someone just lost their ability to walk, they would need help. On that same note, I would like to think if I was already in a relationship with someone, and they became paraplegic, or a low level quad, I would still stay. I will admittedly say that someone that was maybe the level of quad that Christopher Reeves was, I might have a problem dealing with that kind of responsibility in just a boyfriend/girlfriend.
Not a deal breaker, definitely not. And if you've seen him around then he seems pretty independent. Go for it!
If your interested in being a wheel chair & living life, go check murderball

Yes, that would be a deal breaker. It's something different if my wife is in a car accident and then is in a wheelchair then it's all love.
Really? It seems like just excluding a whole segment of the population, is reducing ones chances of finding 'the one'....I understand it's a personal preference like anything else but i never understand how people can fret over the lack of opportunities out there AND be super picky at the same time (not talking about you, I have a gf here who is like that)...

I've gotten to a point where I realize I never know where it's going to be. I've also gotten to a point that I may realize I may never find the infamous one. But if I don't find him/her, I don't want it to be because I was closed minded to a group of people.
I see and then I don't all things being equal I want the woman I think is going to give me the most chance of satisfying my desires. I desire a healthy woman and a woman who doesn't have any "disabilities" may not be what I get put I am pretty sure I can attract someone who is not in a wheelchair. I know I'm picky. I don't think that's bad I think it's just a standard. I can tell you some of the nicesest people I know smoke marijuana and watch pornography, but I will not marry someone who's not willing to give up on that. Same thing goes with women with limited education. I just don't date them. If all you got is high school I just don't want you. Same thing goes with body type. It's not that I think I am better than anybody because I'm pretty fucked up in many ways. I just want what I want.
Call me superficial, perverted or WHATEVER, but I'm wondering what the sex life would consist of?????
