Copied from my original post on The Random Shit Thread:
I've got a question: is there a normal useful lifespan of all laptops and computers?
My dilemma: I have an HP laptop since beginning of 2005. I don't have a lot of programs images music stored on there (I have a removable side hard drive for that), and have all that protection software in place to combat spyware viruses registry errors etc etc. I do the recommended occasional defragmentation and organizing of hard drive too.
Despite all that, it's pretty slow. Some times more than others. What I want to know is that just normal no matter what if you'd had a laptop/computer for 6 years? Is it a function and side effect of all the sites and material you regularly use and read taking up more memory on their end, and there's nothing you can do to change that?
Or is there something you can to bring your useable speed back to where it was the first few years?
If it's just time to replace it and get a new one, then I need to know that. Thanks everyone for your assistance. ;)

My laptop is 6 years old and running slow. I have tried the same as well as removing programs that I don't use and upgrading its memory. It still runs slow so I figure since it wasn't a fast model when I bought,it cannot keep up anymore. I am now in the process of piecing together a desktop.
I bought a 4 year old off lease business pc with Windows 7 for $150 and some additional memory. I spent $180 spent so far and I am looking for a good deal on a monitor. If I can keep the total under $300,I am good to go.
