... the other Black experience

something else

Who else here besides me freuqnetly uses the 'n-word' (as in niggas/niggaz)? BE HONEST!

Supposedly I've been saying niggas/niggaz since I was like five, so needless to say, we know each other quite well. I've went through several nigga-less periods (when I didn't utter nigga or call people niggas) but I always end up back 'home' sooner or later. They were when hurricane Katrina struck and when Obama won the presidency, but then while I was watching the inauguration, I go so excited and was like 'that's my nigga Obama; Nigbama!!!' in a room with senior citizens and a few kids (sad I know).... So people who used to say 'nigga' a lot, how'd you stop or cut it down? It's like, saying 'nigga' completes me or something...lol.

I use it just like racists use it as an epithet for my contempt of some types of people, often blacks.
I don't use it at all. I'm not gonna get into the reasons why, but if your gonna quit, you gotta go "cold turkey" my friend.

P.S. I freuqnetly misspell frequently also.
I say nigger a 100 times every morning...it keeps my teeth white-Paul Mooney.

I do too. It's hard to stop saying a word that you've used for 40 yrs. Maybe one day all people will stop using it.
never used it--evar!
Y'all niggas is wellin'! LOL, but nah, seriously, I can respect the people who don't-y'all are stronger than me. I think I need to start a swear jar but instead of curse words, it's for niggas or something.
I didn't say it until I heard white kids in Canada going "Blacks reclaimed the "N" word thus it's okay to use." What? lol! when did that happen. After that I've been using it as I really just don't care anymore - but it's not popping out of my mouth every other sentence, I just lack the hesitation associated with saying it.
never used it as a kid so it doesn't come naturally to me and i only use it to make a point about an idea not a person or people.
Nigga used to my verbal wingman until I pulled out some friendly fire and shot the mofo down.

Why did I give it up? After writing an extensive paper on slavery in college, I knew that I could never use it again without associating it with lynching, whipping, degradation. It's the same reason why I refuse to use the term "slave wages."

Bro, homie, dude---all acceptable substitutes. I don't mind too much when others use it--provided it's not 100 time per minute.
this REALLY made me laugh. i love paul mooney. i personally don't say it, but i think it's funny when other people say it, because everyone else gets so worked up about it. "fraction of death" is hilarious. i think life is too short to get worked up about one word. there are so many more important things in life, especially since where i live white people refer to each other as "my nigga" so in my head all meaning is gone. if it makes you happy saying "nigbama" then feel free. i'm sure eventually you'll get sick of it or outgrow it or move on to something else, or not. no big deal.

hmmm i don't use it ever. never have and often slightly uncomfortable with the word on a whole. didn't grow up using it as popular slang but i do know some people in my life that sometimes sling that word around. *sigh* i don't get the whole "reclaimed" argument cause if something needs to be reclaimed in the first place--the reasoning behind it is probably problematic to begin with. like reclaimed land or something. wasn't yours to begin with! i don't view that word as "ours" either. but whatev. whole other spiel.
I agree.

I refuse to call any black person the same word that was used in the belittling/destroying/enslaving our peeps for generations. Just can't do it anymore. Words have immense meaning and power--I propose that there's no such thing as a meaningless word, and they affect us to varying degrees. As such, I'd rather stick to words that are healthy.
