Why does mainstream media have to mention an artist's "real name?" Are they really that scared?

You'll never hear them mention the "real names" of "David Bowie," "Bob Dylan."

is there a specific story that triggered yer question? or is it a general q about why the media likes to out rappers' real names? yeah... never really thought of that. good point.
