Cheap Trick
Lynrd Skynrd
Aerosmith

That's off the top of my head. Sparks' early stuff from mid 70's through early 80's was awesome.
I still love their last two albums but I would not really all their sound strictly rock anymore.

I'm seriously biased about this, but I have to say Fishbone, they were really that good. They were so unappreciated for all they did and innovated.
But, since they won't even come close to entering the conversation, I'll say:
Aerosmith
Parliament/Funkadelic
Does Prince count as a band?

Rage Against the Machine?

The Grateful Dead(I don't like them, but you can't deny their impact)

Can you really count Van Halen? They coasted on the popularity they built up during the David Lee Roth years, they were a joke afterwards.
Metallica?
Red Hot Chili Peppers?

Guns n Roses?

Definitely Fishbone, Metallica, I only liked Van Halen's first two albums. They were awesome.

Actually I am a huge fan of Weezer. DAMN good basic fun rock band with happy loud songs. Excellent.
