Hello Lace: Outfit analysis (What makes a lolita outfit a lolita outfit)

Hello Lace is very useful to find stores, methods on how to shop and other very useful pieces of information for new, intermediate and advanced lolitas alike.

And here are the websites of actual brick-and-mortar lolita shops (they're mainly coastal) [and what they sell if mixed variety]

Tokyo Rebel (NYC: various styles) [Baby, the Stars Shine Bright, Alice and the Pirates, Putumayo, Morrigan NYC, Algonquins, etc.]

Baby, the Stars Shine Bright (San Francisco: Sweet lolita)

Angelic Pretty (San Francisco: Sweet lolita)

Black Peace Now (San Francisco: Gothic lolita, EGA)

Harajuku Hearts (San Francisco: various styles) [Putumayo, algonquins, Listen Flavor, Maxicimam, Metamorphose, etc]

Yes they're pricy but more affordable brands will be mentioned in the discussion forum

Thank you for the criticism! Although I was more inspired by the Lolita THEME for these costumes because the convention was super last minute and I put these outfits together from my closet. I was super broke and could only afford some things lol. Thank you for the sites though because i need affordable lolita dresses! I plan on doing it for real this year at anime weekend atlanta.

Oh you looked very nice, Cassian! The hair looks great! But I do have some constructive criticism but if you don't want to read it, you can just stop here, I'll try not to make it a wall of text.

pic 1 - Not really considered lolita for it does not really have the shape. Now, the top could stay but mainly if you were doing Punk or Ero style (Ero is stretching it) but nothing of what you have on is in the Gothic Lolita vein. The skirt would have to go because it is too short, especially for lolita. It's pretty much a tutu, not a petticoat. Even though Ero is more forgiving of short things, it's usually bloomers, cage skirts, basically Victorian/Lolita undergarments. The shoes look great tho.

pic 2/3 - Harsher lolitas would describe it as "ita". Too short, bad lace, no poof (tho some lolitas would challenge that poof isn't always needed, but it does not mean there should be no fluff). It would be best to scrap the whole thing and get more appropriate dress or skirt, I think I put a shopping guide in this group so you can definitely look around on tao bao or Bodyline or even EGL_comm_sales for affordable stuff.

I recently attended Nashicon and dressed as a lolita for a bit. Lolita is one of my favorite things to dress up as, especially gothic lolita. Cant wait to do it again. :3

Lolitas! Here is an old picture for an outfit post that I obviously never made! Dress is by Angelic Pretty but the replica seems to look just like it and I've noticed people just buying that one and its definitely a lot less pricey

Just wanted to share that the h. naoto fashion show I was in last year was posted on youtube. I come out at exactly 5.43 but there was also another african american that H.naoto chose to model in the show. I think its neat that obviously this Japanese designer wants to show more representation of other races in his clothes.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOrtQqPsLOY
