So how does everyone start out? I basically have a story in my head and I think about what i want to happen. Really I see the movie in my head first or scenes. I know how the story is going to end. I then do my character skectches and write an outline then I go from there imagining the scenes and the dialogue.
Anybody here make story boards?
What about financing? I really don't have any ideas about short format stuff. all my ideas are full feature length films.

To answer Kifaru, dialogue is one of my stronger suits as a screenwriter, so I tend to know what I want from it. There was an occasion when I planned for the actors to improv --- but that's been when I was shooting a scene where the dialogue wouldn't be heard but I wanted them to be authentic in their body language and demeanor. Dialogue is such a key part of how you're telling the story; that whole process is a delicate balance between what is said and what is not said, so I can only imagine recording improved dialogue w. actors that I really trust. Either because I've worked w. them and I know their abilities, or I have a gut sense of what they can do. It may not seem like such a big deal when you're on set, things are hectic and buzzing, but really, trust is absolutely key to making a scene work, I think. And it goes both ways, director to actor and actor to director. That's my 5 cents, LOL.

Salutations!..I've been writing for a while now, but fairly new to the screen writing scene. It would be great to get some dialogue on everyone's different type of methods and writing styles and how they use it to produce their plays/scripts/etc..??? Does anyone blog?

I'm in. So what's everybody's method for fleshing out dialogue? When you are writing scenes do expect the actor to adlib a lot?
