AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Anyone here seen Peach Girl?

It was surprisingly good! I usually don’t like romance high school settings but this one was really good. It wasn’t one of those animes where they reveal their love on the last episode. The characters actually had real relationships that were relatable and not ‘fairy tale’ like.

I could also relate to it due to my own personal life. The main character is stereotyped for being trashy and ugly because she has dark skin. And in the anime most guys want girls with light skin. I can relate due to being dark skinned and treated differently from my friend ( at the time) who is a light skinned Creole beauty with natural long hair.

Anyways it’s a very good anime that’s underrated and forgotten about.

The first two episodes are really slow, but it really picked up on the third episode in my opinion. Give it a shot!

Oh man, Peach Girl. I used to read the manga in like middle or early high school and it's one of two manga series that I could get my non-book loving sister to read (the other was Girl Got Game). I remember really liking the manga also because of the relationships and because of the skin color issue. I'm rather dark skinned as well and I know I either get looked over or I'm seen as exotic like Momo.

couldn't get into the anime though...

Same here. I got into Peach girl in the 7th grade for the same exact reasons. I haven't tried the anime though.
