... the other Black experience

So I have an open question for fellow witches: do you use a specific pantheon for your work? Or do you just call on the power of the Goddess and God as nameless entities? Have you ever felt the need to use the Egyptian pantheon just because it's the most popular African pantheon of gods to work with?

That's a good question. I used to reference to the Holy Trinity (never was raised Catholic a day in my life, just fit with the Masc/Fem of divinity for me) but I don't really use Gods or Goddesses enough in my spellwork enough to really say. I use elemental spirits and my spiritual guardians mainly. Now I believe I ask for a God and Goddess (no one in particular) to look over the spell casting and me while I'm doing it to keep everything safe.

I like the Egyptian pantheon and the fact that it's vaaaaaast but I don't use it because I don't feel I know enough about it and I really want to use other African deities such as the Black (Thunder) God or the Red (Sun) God. Because most of the Pagans I know are White, it does make me grit my teeth a little when they talk about Egyptology because sometimes it can sound a bit...kitsch? I think that's the word I wanna use? It's just.... it's like they use it the same way I do with my cell phone cases: only what suits my flavor and don't get too in depth with it. It's worse when they try to bond with me through it like it's their Pagan "I'm not racist" card. >.<

I really want to use other African deities but I also wanna get my Asian ones down too like the Indonesian gods. Other than that, I use what I know, it's my very basic rule of Witchcraft.

I would like to study more Vodun tho. I should visit family down in New Orleans for it. I'm prolly gonna be greeted, "Oh we's got anoth' one in th' family! I heard y'all Marylandas like crabs, that true?" (Don't ask me 'bout the last part, I always see it like that for some odd reason.)
I use to call on many different ones. However, the goddess Athena has been w/ me for a while for justice purposes. I promise you the Indian goddess Seymana(sp) appeared to me in a dream. On many occassions I have called upon Hekate, Luna,Selena,as triple goddesses, during the full moon. I don't call on any male Gods except Thor and Janus. within the past fours years I call upon the great divine(God/Goddess),archangels and other celestial beings like Lilith the queen of the faeryworld and she is also protector of children and animals and she also helps recover lost items. I know in my heart she is real. This past week, I had to call upon her to help me find a lost item. This item was found. When, it was recovered, and I asked who found it no one knew who found it. I knew right then it was Lilith who had hand in its recovery. In the past, she has recovered other missing items for me.

The Egyptian Pantheon is the most popular. I believe that pantheon is a powerful one.
I do use the archangels in my work but I only reserve them for the big things (which thankfully haven't had to come up yet). I don't really use a particular divinity in my spellwork because I don't click with the European pantheons and I don't know enough about the African ones. To be honest, I'm probably the most ahead with the Asian pantheons. I never really used deity much in my spellwork besides just asking for spiritual security while I'm working magick because I never really felt I had to use such a big force for the littler things.
good topic!! i work with mainly kali, oya/oshun, isis, guan yin, and laxmi, so thats a little bit of hindu, african, eqyptian, and asian. i dont particularly seek out a pantheon, i just study all kinds and read up and different ones and see which ones "call" to me. I would suggest looking up the different history, culture and aspects behind each god or godess and incorporate them into your spells and see which energy or spirit gives you the most feedback...
I second this!
