for me John Romita Jr. period
Awesome. Either way, better than most of the guys out now. A lot of guys look like they drew the shit with a hangover. Check out the latest Spider-Man, the one with the villianess who sucks her enemies dry...heh, I just realized that's some nasty shit, lol.
LOL...perverts, hahaha

Yeah, I guess I'm just "old fashioned" or whatever. Now I dig Jack Kirby too of course...but I just prefer John Romita Jr.'s style, even though Kirby was probly one of his top influences when he started out...by the time I was buyin my own comics, Jack Kirby had already set so many standards that u kinda take his ass for granted.

I don't like NONE of the cartoony lookin Marvel hero titles...the zombie shit was ok cause it was original...but the lines ain't go the power like they did back in the 80s half the time...folks gotta "hold back" some, so the computer coloring & shit won't look overdone.

That shit started back when everybody al of a sudden had 70 Photoshop lens flares on the glossy covers of books that...the LAST issue was done the old fashioned way. I can appreciate it more in other mediums than in comics. I dig 3D art for example, but I don't like THOR nowdays...too shiny & shit.
I LOVE Todd McFarlane! That guy's foreshortening and perspectives are just awesome!
I got into the shit in the 90s.

My faves will always be Carlos Pacheco, Tim Sale, Steve Skorce and Joe Madureira. Jim Lee is ok and the poster boy of old school Image, but these other guys had a looseness in their style and great characterization.

Carlos Pacheco

Tim Sale

Steve Skroce

Joe Madureira

I wrote research papers in high school on comics from appreciation to censorship. Classicism is great, but I'm a sentimentalist and nothing can beat the camera angles and direction and modern eye that these folks gave the us industry pre-Matrix.

Jack Kirby...period. Nobody else even comes close.
