I really like the divergence of cultures and artistic expression on A/P. Although I don't dance anymore I'll always have a great love of Classical Ballet and other forms of movement including martial arts. I'm a former member of Pennsylvania Ballet , Dennis Waynes Dancers Co., Dance Theatre of Harlem and American Ballet Theatre II.

Life is pretty "meh" right now. Double foot fracture, can't dance for unspecified length of time (URG!!!).

Welcome New Friends!

When I fled DC nearly 20 years ago, it was to find a better dance scene. Naturally, I migrated north to NYC. Now that I'm back in the nation's capital, I just can't get over how much the scene has developed. Though in certain genres, there are scores of badass beauties who have pitiful technique and reel in $ because their patrons don't know any better, our fledgling Sambistas are on fire!!! Be sure to check out the link to our performance showcase and workshops this month...various cultures/genres on display (not just oriental) - it's the kind of big deal that's worth flying in for...

CALL FOR DANCERS: No experience necessary. Be a part of my Butoh choreography submission for Belly Horror 2010 in October on the stage of the world-famous Birchmere in DC. This piece is sure to 'Shock & Awe'!!

Welcome new members! Feel free to share a little about your dance life here. I am working on a Butoh piece for Belly Horror Fest in DC this year. Check my page for one of my fave Butoh clips...

BTW: The photo for this group is of Bedouin tribal women in Qatar. Damn if the lady standing up isn't my twin, but, alas, I have no ties to the United Arab Emirates. She's getting ready to dance Khaleeji to the accompaniment of the ladies seated behind her. Qatar may be in the Gulf, but Khaleeji is an African dance through and through. AND, more importantly, my AP fam, even though the dance has found its way into Gulf pop culture, it is traditionally a brown skinned woman's "HEADBANGING" dance. A hem, er, perhaps my darling James Hetfeld (Metallica) studied Khaleeji to perfect his famous hair twirls!!!

Yard Dogs Road Show shouldn't be the only group heralded by a dancer. If your movement expression makes you feel like the Black Sheep of the dance world, speak your mind here!
As for me, my current work is in Butoh and in Afro-Asiatic tribal belly dance. In my day, I performed Haitian vodun, Cuban santeria, Brasilian afro-samba, Korean shamanic dances, Bharatanatyam, native and afro-Andean dances, pan-Afrikan folklore, and Southeast woodlands style Amerindian dances.
Umm, my bum is just too salacious for a tutu, I guess...
