Yo what's up DMV family!? Just wanted to give y'all a heads up. I'm performing at the annual art festival, Artomatic(1851 S. Bell St. Arlington,VA) this year. It's gonna be pretty cool with lots of dope art and music. It kicks off on May 18th and runs for about a month or so. I'm actually performing on Saturday the 19th on the Cherry Smash Stage at 11:30pm. It would be nice to get some AP energy in the crowd. I'll post again closer to the event. But I recommend at least hitting up the festival at some point (even if you miss me) as it'll definetely be on point.

ALSO...

I was wondering if anybody was planning on hitting up the Light Asylum show at U St. Music Hall this Saturday, May 5th.  If so, let me know. I'm definetly planning on going.

Peace

Anyone wanna do an afro-punk meet up on friday at this event?  I'd really like to get together with folks and see if there is a critical mass to throw an afro-punk sponsored concert series.  Hit me up! Seriously! Wanna take this community off-line:

One year of Maracuyeah!! One year of us & you & errybody all mixed together!! Love in our hearts!

Please come celebrate with us as we bust loose in honor of Maracuyeahs, 1 year baby birthday. So much tropical boom, so much live tender music passion on the dancefloor, so much awesome building all together!

For this party we will be returning to one favorite Maracuyeah venue, Judys, home to delicious pupusas with best NW in-house curtido, affordably priced drinks, & a bar that can accomodate Maracu-rogue cocktails made just for you- even fresher this time with ingredients straight out of a Peruvian suitcase!

ITS A PARTY!!

FIESTA STATS:

Friday, April 13th, 10pm to 3am
Judys Restaurante
Ages 18+
$10 supports all the artists baby
Fruit pulp $5 tropical drink specials all night!!

Maracuyeah true love Djs: rAt, bent, Mafe (also members of Radio CPR, Anthology of Booty, DC DJ Geekout)

Surprise element: Los TRIBALDIS young DC cumbia stars! With keys baby!! And with extra percussion by.. you of course.

Special guest of honor: dj Chief Boima (Dutty Artz Crew/NY, Ghetto Bassquake, Africa is Not A Country BlogUniverses)

Boima combines music and razor bright ideas like we all Maracufam like to do! Fresh off an awesome album release, Boima actually had us at Techno Rumba, the mixtape that ruled the rAt’s Summer of 2010. He mixes true elements of the tropical and the traditional with new delicious beats, some of which he produces, and he can navigate plays the sweet parts of pan-african pan-latin pan- caribbean isms while still staying very rooted in research, respect, & local love scenes that the music he plays is tied to, and cant exist without/outside of.

He also just got into a twitter-famous, actually important debate with Diplo about global music appropriation: you can read some of his writings here here and here.

<3<3<3 See you there!!

Africa is Not a Country is an anti-colonial musical journey, using the dancefloor/barstool to deconstruct the idea of “African music” as we rock out from Jo-burg to Cairo, from Dakar to Nairobi, with a quick lap around the islands.

^^The Anthology of Booty is a DJ crew in Washington DC seeking to create unique and welcoming social spaces. Our crew is a mix of people from many different backgrounds, and we are painfully aware of how social spaces like dances, clubs, and bars have been used to keep people apart and maintain social dynamics such as racism, misogyny, and homophobia. We are committed to resisting these negative forces by creating spaces for dancing, community-building, kickin' it, and art with an emphasis on inclusion and respect. ^^

++This is a benefit towards the Wonderbox space itself, which hopefully can support rad community oriented projects like ours in the coming year.++

** In order for us to work with the neighborhood and ensure the longevity of the party, please be aware that a police car will be present in the alley for most of the night. On one hand this is not much different than any of our neighborhoods, but we mention it because we have strong feelings about the cops like you may.**
