AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Because while the hipsters are great, being in the DIY punk scene for years is a whole different experience in itself. Being a street punk, crusty, or even a skinhead for years, you're exposed to a different side of society, and a good amount of your peers have been, are, or will be outlaws themselves for a time.

I'm not the most eloquent guy to write this right now (obviously) but there's a difference between just being a music fan or living by your own rules like Pure Hell, The New York Dolls, The (real early) Ramones, etc. There's no danger in being a music fan by itself. I'm not saying that everybody has to be a knucklehead, but having these outlaw party people as the ones who shaped your scene over the decades, the lifestyle is just different. I can't write today, I give up lol.

I hear ya.

Though I got no beef with hipsters and such, it's nice to sit back and chill with cats that share similar experiences with me.
Off top man.

I feel ya. After being around punx and crust kids and real skins for a certain number of years you kinda develop your own microcosm of punk that doesn't really translate into only "black people playing rock" It's so much much more than that.

Still love this site though. I'm glad at least this place exists just for people to have a gateway to some music that might have missed out on (i.e. grind, crust, thrash, doom, streetpunk etc.)
I agree M. AP or something like it was a LONG time coming, but I can see the day when us who remember being in the 3rd wave & the information age look back at punk like Greasers looked back in the 70s, lol. "Damn, remember our subculture? Those were the days..." but I'm stuck in the past myself...we gotta keep on doing our thing in our own way & at least our influence will be out there.
