AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

Okay...so I am getting bored with my same ol same ol recipes. I see so many people talk about what they had for dinner etc and I am like damn that sounds good. So I came up with an ideal...how about we start posting good quick and easy recipes? Help those who are already veg...transitioning...or newbies!

After class i like to have blt sandwiches
I toast two pieces of bread
bake 3 slices of morning star bacon (it's vegitarian but NOT vegan)
when that is done i put mayo on the bread, put the bacon on, add some lettuce and 2 tomato slices and voila!
yummy snack
:)

i went to the store today all excited. got my lettuce, a big juicy tomato and a loaf of bread. my mayo was at home eagerly anticipating my arrival. what did i forget? uh, the veggie bacon?

yeah........ we'll try again tomorrow.........
Still trying all the faux meat that is out there...any suggestions. I tried veggie burgers...haven't found any that I liked.
i like the california burger and the morning star burgers and Amy's Kitchen tastes almost normal.

i'm not vegetarian, although the days i actually eat meat are far and few between. and by meat i mostly mean fish.
@ any rate Grillers by morningstar farms are delicious!! if those are too small they have the Prime(i believe thats the name) grillers. i love them on toasted egg buns or wheat bread w/ honey or brown mustard (hate mayo..yes miracle whip too) w/ lettuce and 2% cheese...mmm nom nom nom

succotash is yummy healthy and take less than 10 min to make also.
Being veg/vegan can definitely be hard sometimes, especially when you're just getting into it. What I find hardest to break is the rule of three, as I call it: "meat," vegetable, and starch. Here are a couple of places where I find recipes. Some are a little complicated, but in the end they're definitely worth it. Check out: vegetariantimes.com (also look into their publications: really helpful!), foodgawker.com, and it never hurts to find a cookbook that you really love. My favorite right now is Vegan With a Vengence. AMAZING recipes. Try the tofu scrambler ;-P
I get the unseasoned ground "beef" and hook it up at home to make really awesome fmeat burgers.

(fmeat is faux meat lol)

Tofurky strips are great too...just gotta season it like mom does it.
If you want to put a twist on your foods, check on this really good cookbook called The Ethnic Vegetarian-- really great recipes,
yum succotash. i made that in the 5th grade for a thanksgiving party, and only my best friend ate it. It's so addictive though.

I have a ton of vegetarian recipes that i made a blog for it.. i am going to try to put one in here.. tell me what yall think!
These are the ingredients:
Edamame
Vegie chicken strips
mix vegies
A can or any creamy soup
any type of dough ( just buy whats on sale)

Lay out your dough and cut in to small enough sizes so that it will fit into your bowl.In your pot, just throw in the rest of the ingredients... easy peasy!!
and cook it untill its just starts to boil.. it will cook more in the oven later. Then just puut the mixture in the pot pie bowl and add more dough on top.. super easy
