It's possible that peeps can change. One who is being hurtful can come to realize that they are unhappy within themselves and decide to make changes. Then they realize that they have "done you wrong" and come back into your life in a wonderful way. I have seen this happen in my own life. It can take YEARS but it can happen.
When you are in touch with your inner voice you will know when it is time to jettison the baggage.
Obviously some behaviors are completely intolerable like physical abuse, emotional manipulation and yet in my life even those have had to be put in context. When a roommate got drunk and assaulted me, I could have had her arrested but I didn't. Many years later, I saw her and she was "making amends" She was thankful that I had not pressed any charges because that would have made her recovery much harder.
Ok I don't want to sound like a lecture here but the "life is too short..." quote set me off.
