Whiteface

Question: Since the pervasive notion persists that goths are all pasty and milk toned

through stereotypical goth literature, artistic depictions and so forth,have any of my fellow brown skinned

afrogoths felt the need to wear white face or to play down their brown skin tone to moreso fit into the pale

stereotype?

If you have why so? and if you haven't why not?

I love my rich skin tone .The only time I've ever done white face was for corpse paint

(the only time I feel it is acceptable haha)

and could not fathom denying my natural shade just to fit into the overall aesthetics of a "scene"

The majority of goths I know are of the non afrogoth flavor so I hear them constantly go on

about paleness yet I don't feel the need to try and look like them.

I feel like in this subculture having color makes me stand out and therefore all the more awesome.

What say ye?

I finally glad to see that there goths of colour who feels this way, and blackmagikbarbie right, you are born with the skin that really presents who you are. Trying to fit in with what society tells you only brings you back to the mainstream way of giving up you individuality. So if your goth and your pale, light brown, dark chocolate, green, whatever it is. Appreciate it, represent it, Love it. ; }

White face? No, but I recently discovered that I get the same ghostly effect but in color when I use skin tone foundation to dust out my lips and eyebrows leaving me just a blank brown canvas, kind of expressionless. It's as equally effective as white face.

well you could always go for a doll look. true you dont have to play pasty face. but you can do anything from light blended harlequin or like i stated before a doll. something akin to iplehouses tanned fantasy bjds. it doesnt have to be so extreme. there are ' like monstah blacks example, effects that are of equal impact.

i tried to do a pale look once.. the trick was to pick a foundation that was three shades lighter than your skintone..

it was terrible XD (in my defense i was 14)

I did in high school back before I realized that this notion of pale skin being the standard of beauty is bullshit. When I go to dance nights I wear my hair big and my makeup bright in celebration of the way I look. They're all trying to look the same, while trying to be individuals, yet I stand out. I think it's funny actually.

You need to hang around some latina goths seriously :) Paleness is not the big aesthetic for goths in say Mexico City.

being goth is more about an attitude, color has nothing to do with it, so do not give in to the pressure to have whiteface on. the culture is very multi-faceted i myself am what is referred to as a rivethead. just find what works for you and work it. whiteface not essential, think of it more as a state of mind and express yourself in the application of your makeup and your dress
