AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

...That you love, or at the very least have an interest in, J-Rock. How did you get into it, who was your first band/artist, and who are your favorite band (s)?

My story is silly. I got into J-Rock purely by accident. Gather around, children xD

This was a loooong time ago, I was 10 (Napster was still free then, rofl I feel old) and I was really into anime soundtracks. Well, one of the people I frequently downloaded from had a lot of LUNA SEA and I assumed it to be an anime even though there was so much material that I should have known better. I think it wasn't until about two months into listening to them before I actually looked them up to find that they were indeed a band. Anyway, I fell in love with them, and to this day they are my favorite. I was fortunate enough to see their reunion show in Japan 3 months ago, and hopefully I will see them again a month from now. They were like the gateway band that got me into others.

If I had to do a top five I'd list LUNA SEA, BUCK-TICK, X Japan, Kuroyume, and Plastic Tree. Top five solo artists would be SUGIZO, hide, 雅-miyavi-, J, and Gackt. I feel old because I tend to stick to the older bands who rarely tour or who are know longer around. The only 'Neo Visual' stuff I listen to is 雅-miyavi-, very little Nightmare/girugamesh and more recently Versailles. Oh man I was long winded about that. Let me shut the hell up, lol

I got into it when I was about 12 or 13. My first was Malice Mizer (Klaha era) which I learned about from a post on this blog site called Morbid Outlook. I got into a couple others (Syndrome, Psycho de Cemu, Dir en Grey, D, SCISSOR, Miyavi, X-Japan) through various lj groups and download sites that no longer exist anymore.

I'm really just recently getting back into J-rock and I like Buck-Tick, Versailles (although my opinion of them has dramatically decreased since I heard about the AnimeUSA fiasco), Miyavi, Tommy Heavenly6 (although she might be bordering on pop) and Alice Nine. Malice Mizer is still one of my favorites as is Kozi's solo project.
Luna Sea when I was 12.
All of my prior experience listed on my resume if j-rock is *sigh* attributed to Anime Soundtracks.

Yeah. I said it!

Anime! |Lots of the soundtracks are etched into my mind.

For serious though, I just got into shonen knife and I'm somewhat hungry for some new, delicious jrock that actually rocks.
