So is it just me or are there some people who seem to be battling each other for who is more natural? Example, its bad enough that I have to get a bunch of comments from chicks with perms about how I should perm my hair but now I get a bunch of comments from chicks with locs who seem to look down on others who don't have locs. Then there is the battle of "I don't do heat, why do you?" "I don't dye, why do you?" and it goes on. Maybe its just a female thing. Maybe its just in us to battle each other even though we have so much in common. It's odd and amusing at times.
WOW! I have this discussion all the time, I also find it very odd and amusing all at the same time. I have joined blogs and message boards for naturals and this shit happens all the time. I have dreads and I have had discussions with females that don't have dreads and there just natural and they look down on people with dreads, I had a girl with an afro tell me she doesn't like dreads because they are dirty. I am apart of a forum right now and the females comment on the board all the time about how the next female isn't a true natural because when she stared her transition she didn't do the "BIG CUT" or when she started her dreads she got sister locs, ( which some consider cheating) or she didn't two strand twist. I have also heard the hair dying thing and even the type of shampoo you use, because if you use regular shampoo you are not a true natural, and the list goes on.
My sister is also a natural but she rocks an afro and we talk about how ignorant we think it is all the time. I think its sad that even in a time when a black women wants to take that step as far as letting her hair go natural, no matter the process, somebody will always want to one up you to show you they are better. F*ck it! I'm a natural that rocks dreads, I dye my hair when I want and I wash my hair with Garnier Fructis!
Personally I don't care how you rock your hair as long as it looks good on you and makes you feel good.
So the motto of the story is "DO YOU"!
All I have to say if you are a young black women in 2009 and you don't want to conform to what is in the media
Actually I forgot about that arguement, "you're not natural if you don't do the big chop!" Lol. It gets bananas at times. But "do you" thats a good motto. I try to be as natural as possible but I don't knock anybody even if they are a girl with a perm, but has microbraids and thinks that she is natural. lol, I wouldn't even knock that chick because her braids make her happy.

Oh yeah, girls always find a way to hate on other girls. I constantly get yelled at for dying my natural red hair black. And god forbid you go to the salon, they'll try to guilt or humiliate you into a relaxer or "texture softener". I say: do whatever the hell you want and don't worry or compare yourself to others. By going natural you're already leaps ahead of most African American women on terms of confidence and self awareness, who wouldn't hate on that.
I think it's totally stupid for anyone to comment on hair that isn't your own. My hair is natural right now and I could honestly could care less if another woman decided to relax her hair that is HER choice. Just like it's my choice to have my hair natural. I think it's stupid that women with relaxed hair even say things to women w/ natural hair. Or women with locked hair say anything to people about coloring their hair.
I think it's all to do with individual insecurity. Whether you are natural or relaxed if your are truly comfortable with yourself you'll waste no energy concerning yourself with what others do to make themselves appear more attractive. End of story.
