AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Ello there, I've been transitioning in February this year and I need some help with what products I can use to style and keep my natural hair healthy. I've been wearing braids for a majority of the year but since its gonna be 2010 next month I want to start the year, hopefully fully natural or wear it out till my upcoming B.C. I also have to prove to my Mother that natural hair is beautiful and maintainable. She was adamant on my decision to end my relationship to the creamy crack. So help and advice is much appreciated. :)
Enlighten me AP!

Well, I can barely remember what I did but there are many sites out there.

Keep an eye on the line of demarcation where permed hair meets new growth keep in mositurized. Deep condition at least once a week. With heavy cream conditioners. For me Neutrogena's triple moisture was great. Take care of your scalp. And really just figures out what works for you.

nappturality.com is a gold mine as is motown girls' site.
In the last couple of years sites and blogs have sprung up left and right about natural hair.

Everyone is different. I can't tell you what's going to work for you.
Hey There gurl!!!

I remember transitioning period.... and for the longest I was searching for products that will help my hair to stay moist but yet still managable.

I came to the realization that just because the product says "AFrican Pride" does not mean that it is going to work, haha.

So, I ended up making my own hair products. I make my own shampoo, oil conditioner, daily oil conditioner, and loc gel. I use the same oil base of shea butter, avocado oil, almond oil, coconut oil, rose water, and vegetable glycerine. All made from natural products, things you can buy at your local Whole Food's store or grocery store. I could tell you my formula but every person's hair is different, so you have to do you research and find out what is going to work for you based upon the needs and the consistency of your hair. If you would like more information I will be happy to share!
some good products to keep in mind are Giovanni organic line, a fat container filled with raw sheabutter. A large wide tooth comb. and invest in a good conditioner. Wash and condition every week. and try to keep the heat off of your hair. If you feel like blow drying or flat ironing use an antifrizz or heat protection serum.
A cute everyday style, after you wash and condition, comb your hair out, oil your scalp and rub or brush through to the ends and plait or twist down and let dry over night and take it loose in the morning and run your fingers through it and throw a headband on and go. you can also go BGLHonline.com or check the old site blackgirllonghair.blogspot.
they have alot of info and helpful articles and styles.
