... the other Black experience

I am so sick of my friends and co-workers with the damn nappy hair comments. I guess they think it's ok because the comments are not directed towards me. They say things like "I don't like my hair nappy like this I need a perm". They even refer to other natural women as that girl with the nappy hair. Oh and Please stop recommending straightening processes to me! Do I look like I give a damn, if I wanted straight hair I would have straight hair! My childs father even told me that I'm making black people look bad. Ugh enough already!

The one constant of people is self-actualized ignorance.
I find it remarkable that anyone that isn't an ignoramus would call some one with natural hair nappy-headed.
Some people LIKE perpetuating stereotypes about themselves. Their motto must be live the stereotype and anyone
that isn't ign't like us is just strange. Ironic.
Yes! I hate that too! People are always telling me that I should straight my hair. Which I havent done in over 6 months and I have never in my life had a perm. I'm always call the girl with the nappy hair. It's like I don't tell you what you should do to your hair why are you telling me. Atleast people with natural hair aren't trying to be samething that they're not.
Going natural symbolizes one of two things: you're tired of spending ridiculous amounts of money on chemical straightening & whatnot, or you're letting go of preconceived notions & stereotypes of what people think about personal appearance and just being yourself. Or both. Either way, people envy what they cannot attain and fear what they don't/can't understand. I've been growing dreadlocks for about a year now, and i've heard over and over again, "Why the hell would you do that to yourself?" or "What made you do that?" and my favorite "What does your man think?" I just let the ignorant comments roll off my back now, but still...is it wrong for somebody to be who they are nowadays?
smh. thankfully i don't deal with this (though i did get one nasty comment before a while ago), i usually get the GIRL DONT PERM YO HAIR and earlier today plus a week ago two young ladies said they need to marry someone w hair like mine to have good haired babies. i was fucking appalled. they just hate themselves so they feel the need to disrespect you. if there were no perms in the world we would have a lot of insecure women.
From the words of Paul Mooney "when ur hair is relaxed, white people are relaxed, when ur hair is nappy theyre not happy"

lol
Yup. Same for clothes, apparent confidence level, the way you talk, your complexion, ....b.s.
The worst thing is when someone bows and scrapes and tries to make them comfortable. b.s.
Reminds me of In Living Color's Timbuck, the Runaway Slave:

....Except when it's white people who look offended when you relax/perm your hair. I work in an office where there are only 10 people of colour, out of 48 people. 2 are men, 3 are Asia. I'm the only natural wearing sista, and yes I'm an afro wearing sista everyday lol. All the other women wear lace front wigs, and weaves in bone waist length to bobed straight blond or light brown. All the white people in the office look confused.

I've starightened it a few times. You should the horror on their faces,oh no not the Black people, the White ones. Black people look happy as hell, they get pissed cause my hair looks healthy and still natural., but glad for one week I'm "Normal". I get the "good hair" comments which I HATE more than life. WTFE,grow some of your own juice, and stop sewaging your system.
Gotta love the good hair comments. Geez!

Natural is beauty. As for the comments nothing more then pure ignorance.
I agree!
