AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Ok been doing the storm revival for a while aka greying at an early age. I happen to love the white heads. My hair started showing white hairs in little places around 15yrs, so it's not a big deal. Now in my 30's it's taken over, and i'm lopsided on what to do with it.

Last year I decided to say farewell to the barbers, and let it grow (it's been a year yesterday, yes MJ's farewell day). It's long enough to go into a bun with no grips or hard gel,and now the stormites have come out.

I'm feeling to dye it,but I'm in such a loose end,no pun intended. Rhianna just killed my punk red look, but Kelis is wooing me towards that strawberry version. What is a  grown women to do?

So assistance needed fellow nappsters. What you saying?

If you go with body art quality henna, your natural hair will have a red tinge, while the grays will be red!

I use a red from the Textures and Tones line. I love it. Cant remember the name, but one box and I got the results I was after.
Hey, sis' -- I definitely hear you in this post, and I totally encourage you to have fun and go for it! I'll be 43 this year and I absolutely still allow myself to have fun with hair dye. I just bleached my locks and dyed them with Manic Panic's amplified formula of their Hot Hot Pink shade (it's lasting so much longer than the regular version and it's soo much more vibrant!). I've been stuck in the rut of doing a ritual of dying my locks black or dark brown whenever the grays made a significant appearance, but I don't want to do that anymore. I'm looking forward to wearing a full head of silver/gray locks like Toni Morrison one day, but, for now, I'm going to have fun with color while staying mindful of hurting my locks. No more layering endless loads of black/dark brown. I'm so in love with this Hot Hot Pink, but I'm also curious about trying Naturtint's "Fireland" bright red shade. Henna's also a possibility. It can be a bit of a messy production to put on -- but it can give you some great results (Genoa's spot-on about using body art quality henna -- never go for any other kind). If you do decide to add some color don't forget to post pics!
I'll say go with Henna products Light Mountain I was considering buying today at Whole Foods. I'm not ready to dye my hair. Neutral Henna conditions hair. So keep in mind what do you want? What color and style? also if you do go to dye your hair right, hopefully keeping it free from harsh chemicals, buy shampoo and conditioner that will not strip the color out.
Owweeeeee Thanks for the feedback.

Baring in my mind I live in the UK, lots of items you suggested are not sold over here, even in Whole Foods!!! But I'm in a heavily populated Asian/Black area so Henna, good Henna is easy to aquire. Will try and post pics this week, the dye day.

Later xxx
