... the other Black experience

I can't take this anymore. Before I use to be the type to just be on the fence and say "well if you choose to do that to your hair, thats you" but after this, I'm Anti-Perm. Yesterday I read an article about how Dominicans hate their Black roots and today I see a video of a Black mother telling her child that the onl...y way she will be beautiful is if she gets the Naps out of her hair. I'm sick of this self hate. These kids (because there is a little brother involved also) are going to grow up hating who and what they are because "they ain't got not fucking daddy" and they aren't pretty with "naps in their hair". This mother doesn't even know the half of the damage she has done to her children's mental state. I am so glad that enough people worked together to get the children out of her custody.

Please watch the video, read the article, and leave your remarks.

Great link. Thanks. I can relate to a lot said by these young girls. i'm 32. I also have moved past self-hate and living in self-love.
I am one of those girls who have" mix hair" or "good hair" as said by other black womyn. However, mix hair is lot harder to maintain then people think. I'm au nautral and love it.

I didn't see the video, but i know the experience. i see it when i do hair and the mother of the child insist i use weave even when the child has more than enough hair to braid or style. Or parents will instruct me to straighten or braid their daughters hair when the child is terribly tender headed and should just really have locs. and the things they say to these girls about their hair and the way they make them feel shame of their and skin as well. But this is something we as a whole people need to dig down deep and correct. We have excepted our booty, lips, loud voices, and attitude, so when will we start excepting our hair?
