I'm moving to New Orleans in a week! I've got good friends there and I'm about to start taking classesd at University of New Orleans. I'm definitely into seeing if something could happen down there for AfroPunks. I think the creation of an AfroPunk scene would just take all of us doing shit and then supporting each other. Are there any punk bands with black members down there? I play music, so I would seriously be down to start a band in New Orleans. I also make a zine about black punks which I'd like to put around town at different bookstores, and maybe I'd like to have a zine release party for the next issue. I think it just takes a handful of us starting bands, putting on events and advertising them. It's pretty simple! You down?
without a doubt Im up for it! I don't think there's any afro punk band. i haven't heard of any and ive been here for several years. Yet i do believe that there's definitely room for a new scene. its just a matter of us getting together to promote and encourage each other to make it happen. i don't play any instruments but i own an electric guitar and amp and i have an ear for great sound and im a graphic artist and i write randomly..
How exciting! I feel ur energy already and i'm psyched! i also attend UNO, i'd love 2 meet up with u and get SOME shit started.

You both attend UNO? Crazy! I go to Benjamin Franklin, I can't believe we're on the same campus. how random. But seriously it will take more than 12 ppl in this group to start a whole scene. :/

Organization first. Persistence second. New Orleans is pretty malleable and I'm certain that there are more than 12 of us here, lol. We just need to be able to make ourselves known. Since we are all on UNO's campus why not start with a meet and greet?

I am no longer attending UNO. I haven't been for quite some time. I am a proud "College Drop Out." I plan on never attending an Institution again, although i am a graduate from ART School with a Graphic Design Degree. Anyway thats all besides the point.. LOL..
I'm still a NUOLEANZ resident and i live in Metairie because the cost of living is a lot more reasonable.. Okay again it seems like i went off the edge again... :O
Point: YES The scene could and should happen and you're right Mesi Organization is first. dedication and persistence shall follow..
To: Sarah 12 is enough to start a scene, yet it all depends on what each person has to offer ( talent/skill) it seems that Osa is
already afiliated with a few local groups so im sure can be of great help.. As for me, I love ROCK. I own an electric guitar that i
don't know how to play but i'll learn at some point.. I am obviously an artist.. (independent filmmaker/ mix medium) and i could possibly sing*:P.. and i like to right...
i play the cello ... and starting the kalimba ... lol i can sing, and i'm pretty damn organized... let's get this shit started! can we all meet up??

Let's do it! I am looking to produce an event in New Orleans...
FUCK MAN, I'm a vocalist/singer...and i need to scream..anybody looking for any new band members/wanna start a fucking band..?
Hey Everybody!
I haven't been on this site in ages! I wanted to know if that nola afropunk meeting ever happened and how it went? I want to come to the next one. I'd be willing to pass on my phone # to whoever is organizing this because that's the best way to reach me. Let me know!!

Also I wanted to let everyone know about this event I'm putting on in April. I make a zine called shotgun seamstress (www.myspace.com/shotgunseamstress) and I'm going to have a zine release party on april 2nd 2010. So far, my band Deny It is going to play, as well as two bands from the west coast, Fleabag and Sourpatch, and this guy from Houston's solo project called the Cocker Spaniels (his name is Sean Padilla).

This will be a DIY event, probably at someone's house or at a warehouse--I haven't decided yet. I would love to include other Afro-Punks from New Orleans. If any of you have a band or do any kind of performance (dance, poetry, cabaret, etc.) We could also do a screening of Afro-Punk before the show or Black Sheep White Lies, or if any of you are filmmakers, we could show your current project. I'm really open to any ideas at all. This could be a great way for us to come together for an event and maybe we could get an Afro-Punk scene rolling soon after.

Text me! 504-343-5792
I don't check AfroPunk.com all the time but I want to be in touch with this group.
I'm excited to hear from you! Let's get this shit started!
