AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

seeking terrible artists to join a terrible hip-hop/punk band!

Ok, not really.

What I'm actually looking for is to meet some local african-american musicians interested in playing punk, conscious hip-hop, & possibly a softer music as well. In my opinion diversity in style brings a lot to your main musical focus, hence the softer bit.

Your experience is fairly unimportant.Yes, I'd prefer that you know how to use your instrument but by no means do I expect (or need) anything amazing. This is all about sound & feeling, not about how many notes you can cram into a bar (even if it is pretty cool). What I want first & foremost is people who have a strong desire to play live, release & promote original music, & let off some steam/aggression/emotion/whatever while doing so. Skills are secondary.

I already have a DJ/Turntablist/co-beatmaker on deck,so now I'm looking for a bassist/vocalist, & a guitarist/vocalist. Rappers & singers are encouraged to respond as well.

A little about me: I'm a keyboardist/mc/spoken word poet/beatmaker with a (cramped) bedroom studio setup but am by no means a pro. I can hold my own creatively, but I'm equally cool with doing backing vocals. I've played in a punk band & was in a hip-hop crew in the past & my musical influences are far too varied to fit this ad.

If this sounds interesting at all, please shoot me an email ASAP & let's go from there.

If only I ived in New York. I'm a songwriter looking to dabble in both hip-hop, punk, and anything that showcases songwriting and musicmaking, and one that focuses on feeling and less on showoffy skills sounds perfect for me.

i love the idea. good luck!
