Cool! I go to NYU as well! What school are you in? Right now I'm studying abroad though. What I recommend is spending the day walking around your area to discover things.

Best places I've been to:
Hanging out in Union Square late at night is always fun because there's so many people there playing music, skate boarding, etc.

The Bowery Poetry is a great venue for shows, and it is also a cafe.
Think Coffee is also a good cafe too. There's one in the new NYU Bookstore and down Mercer St.

St. Marks Place between Third and Second Ave has great Asian restaurants (Mostly Japanese). Oh! Taisho has really cheap meals where you get lots of food. There's also lot's of piercers, tattoo parlors, the punk store Trash & Vaudeville, and some vintage punk stores. Best place: 2 Brothers Pizza, where you can get pizza for $1. It's the most popular place, and we NYU students love it. The meal deal it great: 2 slices and a can of soda for $2.75.

Look out for warehouse parties in Brooklyn too.

That's all I can say at the top of my head. If I think of anything else I'll let you know!
I go to NYU as well and have no idea what to do, thanks nelly for the info!

@Subliminal
