AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

Ok, here's the thing.

There is this show First Love Second Chances on tv. It's basically about people going back in their past (usually people over 35) and finding someone they dated in high school, usually a first love and trying to reunite with them. Ahem.

Many of them are lamenting 'Oh I was so in love, I wonder what would have happened had we never broken up....I want them back.'

This makes me roll my eyes till I sprain.

Am I the only one that gets that teenage love is not the same as grown ass love?

I can't imagine tracking down some dude I was in love with at 16 or 18 and thinking he was going to be the love of my life currently.

Is this a retarted concept, or do you think it's possible?

It does seem rather naive to think you gonna pick up where you left off.... Only advantage I can see is there may be some familiarity with the person that will allow you to relax more & be yourself.. But a TV show dedicated to this is kinda duffus...
Best left to happenstance....
I thought it was silly too. I have watched it like four times and only one couple didn't crash and burn. It may have had something to do with them both being single parents of tween girls or something. But they didn't move to be together, and they are both pretty quirky. One sells skateboards and was a pro skater in his youth, the other is a professional writer. So as adults they sort of complimented eachother. But the others? WAAAAAAAYYYY too much baggage. WOW! Just cold hard slaps in the face all round.
Ick. I have no idea where anyone I went to high school with is now, and can't imagine I have much in common with them. Even then I was very conscious that my high school boyfriends were basically placeholders/practice until I could get the hell out of Detroit and move on to bigger & better things.
I would go on this show if they guaranteed I could bone all the girls I was too scared to bone when I was in high school
okay, recently i sent an innocent message to an old flame that i once "blew it with," via a cousin that still lives near her. i was told she smiled the same smile that creased my face when i sent the message. not trying to go there again, just fond memories. i for one can say that i am friends with almost every woman i once date.

as for the show, "stupid is as stupid does." never get me on it. lol now your thread "in praise of women over 40" (Stacey Dash comes to mind) would make me like to look up some of the ones that i missed. they should be some, "jazzy ole babes" now!
