AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

I am getting a new tattoo before summer. The location will be on my chest right next to my arm pit. (In the middle from neck to breast about the shoulder area.) I am wanting to get something that says acceptance without the word acceptance. I have been looking for symbols and all that and I can't find anything. Any suggestions or ideas?

How about "Fuck you, you can keep your damn job!!"? Location will definitely make it convenient for job interviews that go sour. LoL

I'm sorry--I thought that response was hilarious, so I just couldn't resist it.

Greetings, Sista. Blessed to have you on AP.

But really, I think that once you decide on a particular design, you might actually want to place it in a different place. For instance, I want a full sleeve, but with the exception of these few pieces that I already have there, I'm not sure how I'd build it so that it looks "right" to me. I have some ideas, but I definitely haven't 100% decided on anything yet.

Do you want to use text? If so, a certain font? A certain slogan? Are you talking about pictoral symbols? Complex, 3-dimensional ones or more of a simplifed look? A combination of text and pictoral symbols?

It is possible that you haven't found a design yet because "acceptance" is just the beginning of your idea? Just speaking for myself, I'm thinking that the word by itself could be too abstract for a symbol. And then once you can open a book on zoology or cultural anthropology, you'll find your idea developing even more. What is this or that animal's behaviour like? What does a certain society say about x,y and z? How does a particular culture translate "acceptance"? I'd try to consider all sorts of philosophical and common historical references: The Bible, books on African proverbs and Haiku poetry might really clarify it. If you can even summarize your idea in your own maxim or proverb, you could build a design from that and then you'll have the most unique piece of ink around--your own vision.
LOL... it will be tucked away and only seen if I wear a tank top or halter...I was thinking about that. Thanks for the suggestions...I will start looking.
