I'm from a small town in Northwest Louisiana, about an hour north of Shreveport and three hours east of Dallas (which is my favorite city to run off to when I have an opportunity!). The school I attended has about 300 students, kindergarten through twelfth grade, and there were 13 people in my senior class. It was ages before cable, then internet, was available in our area, so I lived life via the magazines and music I received in our mailbox. The only peers I had were the people I met through the pen pals section of Metal Edge and Maximum Rock 'n Roll back then. Not even the white kids listened to the kind of music I did. The vast majority of them were solely into country music, and the ones that weren't listened to pop or radio-friendly rap and r&b. That was my life growing up in the eighties and nineties. After I graduated from high school, I attended college in a town that had banned MTV at the local cable company!

After I escaped from that town, I moved to New Orleans, where I worked on Bourbon Street and felt really at home for the first time ever. After I left there, I moved to Austin, Texas, then Fayetteville, Arkansas (more college towns...), before moving back to Louisiana in 2004. That's my background as a podunk afropunk. What's yours???

I live in a small town of EL Dorado Arkansas, where it's hard to find a job, and thank god that I got one. As a painter. Plus they need to tear this piece of shit mall down because it ain't hardly shit in there, but Jc penneys, shoe show and few other stores. See I rather live in bigger cities so I could get anywhere, where they have shit occasionaly.Where I live right now, Sucks!!

Trust me, any of you don't want to move here.

I'm from Lynchburg, TN. Granted,we  get a lot of tourists, but seeing the variety of visitors only serves to highlight how homogeneous and small the local population is.
