AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

afropunk 2013

So I'm new to the group, but I mainly joined to trade ideas and experiences with like minded people. Right now my daughter is 2 years and 3 months and we are in the thick of the "terrible two's." How do you all handle disciplining your kids? How different/similar is it to how you were raised.

Personally I was raised in a household where you gotcha a$$ whooped, lol. I will say my mother was VERY fair and the only thing that would prompt a spanking was lying to her. Me on the other hand we're trying to go about things a little different. What are your views, techniques, obstacles?

Peace

Me personally,my son is 10 and weighs117 lbs almost as tall as me.I have to grab him up like he's a grown man if I don't he's going to think he can kick my ass.
That funny :)
I like you came from a ass whipping household. Beat ass ask questions later. When my children was going through there terrible twos's I remember just assessing the situation. Were they hungry, tired or just want to explore. The exploring part was a power struggle as I was not one to let any 2yr old do what they want. I always had a paper and crayon handy or their fav mini toy(for traveling) available. Spanking(behind or legs) were for dangerous scenario ( ie: running into the street, biting, or throwing things). Full blown tantrums usually required a stern voice and a eye to eye gritting your teeth "Stop it". Did it work, crazy enough yes. I found when I got down to their level they calmed down. Sometimes a hug an a kiss or just acknowledging their presence(especially when we're on the phone) can do some justice. Know that I didn't acknowledge the crying or comforting when it was time for nap cause they and I needed that
quiet time. Children do need to learn how to comfort themselves and certain boundaries not to cross but that every level of discipline is determined by the child's age and personality.
