Lots of AFP group activity is down compared to recent years. I think it's due to mass media distractions and other social networks like Facebook, Twitter, We already lack unity, and the news of the world reinforces that fact as we form arguments and opinions based upon thought constructs like skin color/race.

B.A.R.F. is not my baby....I'm working on it with few others....We'd like it to be a full weekend of Bands, Panel Discussions, Films. Nothing engraved in stone as to the hours. Glad your excited! Me 3!

The Coup is a great suggestion! I know of a slim few artists/bands....
Maya Songbird
Black Hipster Kolektiv

If you know of any to add to my short list...please do!

Feel'n your enegy LITE ORANGE. Glad to know you're still around. Any idea why the activity of bay area afropunks dropped completely after being so active a few years ago?

Also we are interested in learning more about Black Alt Rock Fest. Is it a weekend event? What are the hours? Is this your baby? Sounds really REALLY COOL!

Finally, we are interested in connecting with bay area black Alt musicians/performers/bands. Do you have a current list of bands that fit that description? I think The Coup would top that list as far as active O.G.'S. What bands are you aware of out here in the bay?

Yo JAMMING NACHOS! ...IM STILL HERE.... AND LOVE THAT YALL R DOING YO MUFUKIN THANG HOLDIN DOWN THE AFP BAY AIR-e-YAH! So sorry I was too busy, too broke & (honestly) too color struck to miss your show at Awaken....& KEEP ROCKING! HARD AS MUFUKIN POSSIBLE!

...I just have to say though, being us...AUTOCHTHONOUS
INDIGENOUS folx here in the bay and building/holding/keeping/nurturing our community/rituals & traditions is a TOUGH THANG! First of all we think we BLACK, NEGRO, COLORED, AFRICAN-AMERICAN! ...sorry to disappoint, but them is Euro-programmed thought constructs invented so our culture gets lost in so-called multiculturalism! It's a long story, of oral tradition and WHITE WASHING...& therefore we have so much disunity throughout our human race as an entire planet....and so it's sad to see THIS HERE AFP COMMUNITY feeling the effects of post modern materialism & mental slavery/mind fuckery. This is the outcome of mis education.... I don't go to shows much b/c I don't wanna party with pale face ingnoramuses nor unconscious negroes, nor stupid drunks!

I want us to have our own venues! Set up our own shit. How many others feel the same? I don't know! I hope enuff to get to work! Like a West Coast Harlem Renaissance! I believe we have all the tools, skills, people, resources, energy, and abilities to do so. I personally have access to a few conscious venues that understand what we need to get shit rockin! AND I am ....I HAVE A *FESTIVAL DATE SCHEDULED FOR THE WEEKEND OF NOVEMBER 13th IN OAKLAND AT THE OMNI. I'm booking bands NOW! Show is called B.A.R.F. BLACK ALT ROCK FESTIVAL! FEEL FREE TO CALL & leave a message @ 510 992 3544

Hey susiesuz - y'know, people have been saying that more recently, but in the last 14 yrs since I moved back to the bay from LA, I can honestly say that really strong artist enclaves have always resided in Oakland. It seems now that SF artists have lost their strongholds, *now* I hear more claims of all the artists moving here.. just a minor point, really. Are you living in oakland/SF or elsewhere? xo
