AFRO-PUNK

... the other Black experience

I LOVE tattoos. I now have three and I'm getting more. I got my third one yesterday. It's just a simple ohm on my right shoulder. I'm going to add to it later:

Right before I get a tat, I feel nervous. I get like little butterflies... A rush. Then I hear the click and the buzz of the needle. I may (or may not) close my eyes... A wait for that first touch... Bzzzzzzzzzz... Wipe, wipe. It doesn't "hurt" until after he's wiped and tatted a few times... But while I'm sitting there, carrying convo with the artist, eyes closed... Opening from time to time... I'm thinking of my next tattoo. Where I'm putting it, what it's going to be... How big I want it...

Why are tattoos so addictive? Aside from the beauty/aesthetics?

I was always told that there were addictive... I shrugged and laughed that off... But they really ARE! And I LOOOOOOOVE them SO much.

Tat #4. Back of the neck or on the thigh. Or maybe one on each shoulder blade...

I soooo relate to this post. Aside from how much we may adore the beauty of tattoos on our bodies, the "addiction" part of it is a simple issue of biology. The rush of endorphins some people get from snowboarding, bungee-jumping or other forms of physical exercise or "thrill-seeking" is similar to what many of us feel during the tattoo experience. Endorphins are our bodies' natural pain killers and are often compared to morphine in terms of their effect at blunting pain and creating a response of pleasure and relaxation. Thank you, Mother Nature!! Good luck with your new pieces. I'm really looking forward to getting more work, as well (sleeving the rest of my right arm and a chest and upper back piece).
its an endorphin rush, soo your literally high on life haha
Tattoos are addictive because once you get that first one, then realize that pain you imagined isn't anywhere near the pain you actually feel, you start to relax and get excited at the same time. It's an amazing experience. If you ever get the opportunity someday, I highly recommend tattooing yourself. For that is a true rush that is indescribable.....
Yeah I'm starting to get that concept too. I got my first one the day before memorial day a peace clef and a couple days later i was getting something else. But my second one is healing badly so imma have to wait for it to be completely healed to access the damage and get it tweaked. Thank god its small, but thats not stopping the wheels from turning in my mind and thinking of what to get next time and where. Its exhilarating really
