uh, well, my mother hates them too (although she has two of her own she's been threatening to remove for years, but i have four. i say if you really want it do it, or maybe discuss it w/ your mother. maybe she wont mind as much if it's not so visable. i was your age when i got my first, however i was on my own. i know one problem my mother had was that i'd get something i'd later regret, be it trendy, or whatever. and she was partially right, but i guess that's why they made coverups...

i doubt i'm helping. uhh, follow your first mind, or something.
lolz well what are your tats of?

an ankh on my inner wrist, my daughters initials and bday on back of my right shoulder, one love on my hip and the stupid ass fucking mandarin character below my nape on my upper back that means something you'll have to private message me to find out.

well, being a tatoo vet in this thread.....i'll let you know how i did it. i would think very carefully about what you want to get/where its placed, discuss it with your mother rationally, and then decide. Explain why this symbol means so much that YOU (not something to show off or impress someone else) would want to wear it forever. Think about the fact you have to work somewhere decent one day, and not look like a hood rat, ag or stripper (ie. thigh tats, tramp stamps, forearm/bicep, etc. you know what i mean) . Your mom may very well remember being in your shoes, and saying "f*ck it!" im getting this tat!" And later thinking, "im such an idiot!"
i was 15 when i got my first ( i was born old) i got two hearts (one larger, symbolizing me, and the smaller one my brother)on my ankle that i drew myself in class when i found out my mom was pregnant with my brother. i was an only child and was deeply connected to him even in the womb. i knew he would be my my only sibling cuz my mom was like 40, lol. we talked about it in the car one day, and she agreed it was cool. so give her a piece of why this should be a part of you permanently.
im 20 i got my first tat when i was 18.
CMC on the side of my left middle finger.it stands for "change must come"
that was me and my bfff slogan when were still in high school so it represents our bond not only to each other but to helping make a diff in society.
alot of people were saying i was crazy to get a friendship tattoo, but how i see it, even if we stop being friends one day i'll always have a reminder of when times were good.i know i wont ever regret it.

i now have 11.and basically all of them are visible.i have both my knuckles done and one on my hand,my arms are done up nice too i plan on sleeving both arms, getting my ribs done, and working on my legs.

my mom HATES all my tattoos lmao, even though none of them are spur of the moment. they all have deep meanings to me and honestly i love them and could never be without them.

you have to understand that having tattoos becomes a lifestyle.you meet people and share your ink stories and yes people do judge you...but if thats enough to deter you from inking up then you shouldnt get any. at first i was worried about how jobs would feel and how my mom and society would react, but then i realized i was worrying about what everybody else thought and not what i felt was right.i'm not living for anyone but myself.once i realized that it was a no brainer.my piercings can come out,i can wear long sleeves, and i can use tattoo concealor.i may have to put on a disguise to fit into corporate america, but i'm not the one with the problem...they are.
so is tattoo concealer like make up and does it really cover it all up? wow you've thought of everything so what exactly do you want to do in the corporate world?

ceaser, you make a very good point, but sometimes what you think at 20 is a WHOLE DIFFERENT thing at 30. I have 7 "sessions" of tattoos/15 tats (all drawn by me, i teach art and stuff) and visible piercings. i don't disguise anything. if the tattoo or piercing is that much a part of you and blend into WHO you are it goes completely under the radar. i have had a monroe piercing in my face that lays flat, a diamond no less, and i was in corporate america from ages 19-31. i have had black star movement stars behind my ears "hearing the call of my ancestors" for years. now i see everyone getting stars for any ol' reason (ie. i wanna be/am a star, i love chris brown and/or rihanna, twinkle twinkle, etc)....it bewilders me.
yeah its kind of thick but it blends in well.they have some that are water proof and smudge proof so you wont have to worry about staining your clothes or anything.lol.i know kat von d makes some but i think hers is kinda expensive.you can google it and find some good brands.

as far as what i wanna do in the corporate world.lol.im not sure.
if it was up to me i'd be as far away from it as possible i hate the stuffy business suit atmosphere and blase water cooler conversations.lol
but im majoring in sociology and spanish and minoring in political science
i wanna be a part of my community and do some sort of social services...
i'm sort of an animal/human rights,environmentalist activist ...in training.lol

ive thought of that.cause i know who i was 5 years ago is not who i am today.but all of my tattoos are rooted into my beliefs and the most basic attributes of my personality so even if i change dramatically i don't think i'll regret them because they represent chapters in my life.
most of them fall under the umbrella of representing either peace, love,or knowledge.how far from those ideals could i deviate?lol

I think being an artist, I just wanted to further my appreciation of artistic expression. I just got my first tat a few months ago, but I've been considering what it would be for years ( I decided on the red and black "A" logo of the Marvel Comics team the Avengers). It doubles as a symbol for my poetry group the Affrilachian Poets. A few of us have ink and appreciate the art form.

The one tattoo has started an obsession. I've already gone back to my tattoo artist to talk about a half sleeve of my favorite black superheroes to go around the A: the Black Panther, the Falcon, and Luke Cage. I'm sure I'll be continuing the black super hero theme for a while.
i love your sleeve idea.
dont worry i dont steal peoples tattoo ideas...thats real trecherous

My moms has been talkin' about getting one for the past two years, but she doesn’t like pain. I myself have 8 now, but my first one I would like to get rid of or covered up. A backyard tattooist did it. LOL! That was about 16 years ago, so now the image is all bled out and it just looks horrible. My motto since then has been "cheap tattoos aren’t good, and good tattoos aren’t cheap!" LOL!
Just make sure you get one done professionally... come to think about it, I never discussed my tatts with my mom, but when she found out I got the stink eye for a while.
