Are you shooting with a Point & Shoot? If it has a manual setting for the flash, try using it to light the subject when there's light from behind so you can even it out. This shot has some good composition. Maybe it even a an option called fill-flash (that would be ideal for these situations). If you have Photoshop, try playing with a mask and LEVELS or EXPOSURE to lighten the shadow area s on the guy in front.
