The problem with perfection is that it goes way beyond either what you were made to do or what you are. Perfection is something that people dream constantly of, but never ever seems to reach because it's really impossible. Everyone chases perfection because perfection is that next level of something really, really good, and trying to get towards it just makes you feel depressed and dismissing of your own abilities to do whatever you can do as an artist or as a person, really. And if you tried, surely, you'd wind up with something sterile, boring, and/or unoriginal in your craft, which imperfections often fix.

This is something I really needed to hear, and who better to hear it from than the likes of the great Janelle Monae? :-)

Comment by Milo Lowe on January 14, 2013 at 5:37pm: I believe perfection is the enemy because it gives a false feeling of being finished or hitting the ceiling. Like heroism is also the enemy because it is a very absolute, black-n-white concept. No variables like in real life. Making mistakes is a very important part of the process of growth.
