mother of jordan davis wins georgia congressional seat

November 8, 2018

Good news from the midterm elections continues to roll in! This time from Georgia’s 6th district and the race between Karen Handel and Lucy McBath.

Handel won her congressional seat last year during in a special election against Jon Ossoff in a highly publicized upset for Dems. But then the blue wave came to Georgia. And now McBath, mother of slain Florida teen Jordan Davis, is headed to Congress. Narrowly defeating Handel, an NRA-backed candidate, with a gun-control message, the former flight attendant has accomplished what so many other white, liberal candidates have attempted and failed in the past: turning the seat once held by Newt Gingrich blue.

McBath’s son, Jordan, was killed six years ago in an act of gun violence.
