yasiin bey (mos def) joins experimental hip-hop duo buy muy drugs in high-intensity “buy my app”

When Yasiin Bey, the artist formerly known as Mos Def, declared his retirement from the entertainment industry in 2016, we thought we lost one of the most talented lyricists in the game. Thankfully, this is turning out to be one long retirement, as the rapper has since collaborated with Ferrari Sheppard and has also hit the AFROPUNK Paris stage earlier this year.

Now he’s back again, joining new experimental hip-hop duo Buy Muy Drugs for the high-intensity track “Buy My App”. Comprised of Denmark Vessey and Azarias, Buy Muy Drugs describes themselves as “an Afro-Brazilian percussive mien hybridized with the aggressive, federally-sanctioned genre: loom-bap,” and the world their music provides commentary on as one in which “the working class, affected by the aftermath of MKFZT’s commercial distribution, teeters in elevated levels of addiction. The gentry’s license to manna-fest change enables the diet of big pharma-philosopher’s stone.”
