Antidote for Ignorance: What happened Charley?

Well….it looks like Black politicians have found themselves in the middle of a negative media blitz over the past two weeks. We all know the media, whoever that phantom is, is constantly using scandal to move papers/magazines, increase blog hits and boost ratings.Another component of common knowledge related to the press is that they occasionally exaggerate and lie. With all of this given information you would think an elected official would make a conscious effort to steer clear of conflict…See More

Antidote For Ignorance: Can a Brotha Spare Some Change?

Matters not if you are a Whig, Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, or Dontgiveadamnican, the Bush years were tough for a lot of folks. By the time 2008 rolled around we had been dealt a hand trumped with economic and social despair.Just when Bush seemed to be down to the cardboard spool sitting there with his drawz around his ankles here comes a ray of hope in the form of a barely known fella out of Chicago with a fresh new roll of toilet paper and some air freshener to clean up.Like the bum at…See More

About Me
"Antidote for Ignorance" with Benjamin Adams

If the word "politics" sends a looming chill of boredom and contemplative depression, you're not alone. Many people fear looking like a terrorist, so they don't admit to not fully grasping American policies or the under workings of the judicial system. Instead, when a policy conversation arises, most people understand about 15 percent of what's really going on and for the other 85 percent -- put on the look of concern meets constipation face to appear really moved by the conversation at hand.

The reality is, a looming amount of the information fed to the American people is loaded with convoluted text, and the real messages get lost in translation. The true question becomes, how can we begin to fight for change in America, if we don't even understand the policies that limit us?

*In "Antidote for Ignorance," columnist and history buff, Benjamin Adams will take current bills and policies and break them down for everyone (in the privacy of their homes, of course) to understand what lawmakers are really saying between the lines. And don't worry, we won't tell anyone if you secretly read his work.

So…..it’s not that gays and lesbians can’t serve in the military. It’s just that the gay sniper standing in the chow line can’t discuss how much he misses his boyfriend or partner back home.

Instead of a half naked picture of Halle Berry in his bunk he might arouse suspicion with a half naked picture of Brad Pitt.

Basically as it stands right now, in the government policy, (Don’t Ask Don’t… Continue
