Band Bio

Musicians and brothers Kairo and Chad Joseph started the idea of the project after parting from the alternative rock band A New Shade of Black. Originally the two were looking for a heavier sound without losing their melodic and experimental edge and, with the help and guidance of their mentor Vernon Reid of Living Colour, came the concept of Kairo Vs Chad: A two-piece experimental hardcore project revolving around the push and pull of Brotherhood, and the duo began.

Pushing the envelope of this concept, the two have changed the name to HelixDown: -Helix-, being a genetic symbol which emphasizes the relation, and -Down- from the Final Fantasy franchise’s item of rejuvenation, a reference of revival. The project officially started in late 2008, and the two have been writing music ever since, Kairo with the guitar riffs and mood, and Chad with the drums and heartbeat. New to the project is Chad on vocals, adding a tougher and edgier side to the music, while Kairo who was already known for his combination of screams and cleans, continues on his craft.

The sound is open to interpretation, as the two's diverse musical tastes and styles make it almost impossible for them to label the music. Kairo's blend between post-hardcore, alternative rock, world music, and lounge seems to collide perfectly with Chad's metalcore, crossover thrash punk, mathcore, and jazz influences. With such influences and unique styles of instrumentation, the duo sounds like a full line-up without the need of a second guitarist or bassist although the two are open to experimentation via other musicians and programming.

Quite the growth from the initial Kairo Vs Chad project, HelixDown boasts a medley of lyrics based on a multitude of topics and scenarios that emulate either a conversation or an argument between the two, something that is common between siblings today. Whether it be about a good night gone wrong or about the state of the world or even an argument between the two brothers, Kairo and Chad both have something to say about it. Their passions and experiences give them the fuel and ammunition needed to sing and scream out their thoughts and feelings to the world, and they are not apologizing.

HelixDown is heavy and rhythmic, melodic and experimental; a band which branches off from the NYC hardcore scene yet collaborates and supports it, a story of two brothers who had put their differences aside to create something fresh and new. A madness shared by two…

What up Afro-Punker!

I manage the Los Angeles based metal band, BRAIN DEAD BUROCKRACY (BDB), and could use your help.

In the DIY spirit, we are booking gigs throughout the States for April, May and June and want to gig in your town. Might you be interested in co-producing a show with us? Pretty much, you pick the best place, small venues (200 cap.), and we work out development and marketing together. Great opportunity to bring some Black rockers to your town, and we may even make a little gas money. Also, as Founder and Creative Director of LA PUNK NOIR, I am able to provide your band with exposure via our Official site, as well, as host a performance before an enthusiastic LPN crowd, should you have an interest in coming to L.A. Any help/advice would be great.

Consider and connect.

Peace,

Lord Q
