Christopher A. Sawyer was born and raised in Harlem, NYC. As a child, he was deeply influenced by the burgeoning hip-hop scene and began dancing when he was 10 years old. He attended Manhattan’s LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, made famous in the movie “Fame”. After graduation, he trained with the prestigious Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
During the 1990s, Christopher’s skills allowed him to tour extensively with Mariah Carey, Salt & Pepa and Dru Hill, and he appeared in music videos by Mariah Carey, Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Jay-Z, Buster Rhymes, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, Bounty Killer, MC Lyte, and Total among others.
In 2003, Christopher began teaching dance to young people. In 2007, he established Children’s Dance Project as a way to continue to pass his knowledge of and love for dance on to younger generations. Children’s Dance Project provides dance instruction throughout the metropolitan New York and New Jersey area and has plans of establishing a school dedicated to dance and the performing arts. Programs run year-round before and after school, on Saturdays, over school holiday periods and during the summer.
