Joeboy Releases Sizzling Sophomore Album Body & Soul

May 19, 2023

Afropop superstar Joeboy returns with his hotly anticipated sophomore album Body & Soul via emPawa Africa. Out now, Body & Soul is 14 tracks of love, good vibes and happiness, filled back-to-front with Joeboy’s trademark free-flowing lyricism and radiant riddims, and featuring contributions from a wealth of Nigerian talent. Opener ‘Normally’ sets a blissful mood with soothing keys and striking features from Nigerian up-and-comer Odumodublvck and Afro-fusion artist BNXN, before moving into the title track and lead single ‘Body & Soul’, which already has over five million streams on Spotify, bursts into view with its joyful melody. Recent single ‘Duffel Bag’ provides one of the album’s more celebratory and dancefloor-inspired riddims with its cleverly crafted 808 bass lines, and the funk-laden ‘Contour’ tells a brooding tale of betrayal and heartbreak.

Other highlights include ‘Wetin Be Love’ which features Ckay, the intimate love song ‘Lose Ya’ which features delicate guitar shapes and a heartfelt Joeboy vocal, and the Amapiano vibes of ‘Woman’ which also features viral superstar Oxlade. The album also includes ‘Sip (Alcohol)’, Joeboy’s biggest single to date with almost 700 million streams worldwide, as well as two more red-hot features from US hip hop legend Ludacris on ‘Chciken, Spice & Curry’ and Kemena on ‘The Best For You’, before ‘Halle’ wraps up the LP on a hopeful note with a moving prayer to the future.

“The major idea behind the album is the idea of love. Self love, romantic love, love for family, love for life itself”, says Joeboy of the album, which also spotlights a roster of talented African collaborators including producers E Kelly, Tempoe, DëraTytanium, Yung Willis, Timmy and Kemena. The Lagos native released his debut EP Love & Light in November 2019 and appeared on the #1 single in 2020 ‘Nobody’ with DJ Neptune and Mr Eazi. He followed this early success with 2021’s debut album Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic. It was just the beginning for Joeboy as his next track ‘Sip (Alcohol)’ became his biggest single to date, with the track topping Apple Music’s streaming chart in 17 countries, Joeboy would finish 2021 as the year’s most streamed artist worldwide on Audiomack.

Body & Soul is a vibrant sophomore LP full of love and light – and one that cements Joeboy’s voice as an indelible part of the global music landscape.
