Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival & Lecture Series will honor visionary women in film and television at their annual gala this Sunday in Brooklyn (6pm-8pm at Kumble Theater). One of this year’s honorees is the talented Margot B., the actress/vocalist on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire. Watch her in action in the clip above.
As well as the actress/singer, the awards ceremony will celebrate other trailblazing industry leaders Mable Haddock, founder of the National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC), and Mahen Bonetti, founder of the African Film Festival, Inc. Emmy award-winning journalist Richelle Carey, an anchor at Al Jazeera America, will be the night’s Mistress of Ceremonies and performances will come from Sahr + Ricardo’s FELA aKUsTIc, comedienne Phoebe Robinson and other special guests.
