Singer/songwriter, The Storyteller, is a passionate songstress with a distinct soulful voice, the weight and full body of it reminiscent of Nina Simone. She is trip hop and rock music intertwined with a voice reminiscent of 1960's soul! She has been performing songs and poetry since the age of 9 on the church choir in Jamaica W.I. According to The Storyteller, “Life is poetry. Life is a story. The sound of the leaves when the wind is blowing, the way people interact with each other, love, pain. It makes perfect sense to me when people call me a poet even when calling me as a singer.”
She has released two solo albums in two years; Rachel Burrell is The Storyteller and the LP, Starving Artist, was released May 4, 2012 and can be found on ITunes or Amazon. She is also in a two person group, X Black Superheroes, with a political hip hop/spoken word and soul sound.
The Storyteller, who lives by the motto “Let your voice be heard,” is the founder of the New York based company, Price Tags Art, which focuses on promoting artists who write thought- provoking and conscious music. It is her belief that music is a ‘heavy’ influence in all of our lives and that of our youth – to that end Price Tags Art has been committed to going into schools to speak to young people about music and the psychological effect of its content.
