Struk is Atlanta-based producer, singer, songwriter, self-taught multi-instrumentalist, DJ, and visual artist Brett Eclectic. Upstart is his debut EP – he created the entire project himself, from the artwork to the music, and all of the lyrics and vocal arrangements came straight from the head, no pen or pad. His music is a polymorphous blend with elements of dark funk, gritty rock, spacey soul, and cinematic electronica. The sound is unique and calls to mind artists like Prince, Madlib, Radiohead, Sly Stone, Flying Lotus, Nine Inch Nails, P-Funk, and Massive Attack.

As Brett Eclectic, he’s been DJ’ing and making music for years with other artists: He produced and did hooks for Broady Champs, Buddy Leezle, and Angelitti, and laid guitar on tracks for Meko and Mob Life Music.

He’s been a professional DJ for more than a decade, spinning sets that span genres such as rock, funk, rare groove, hip hop, electronica, and reggae. His gigs have included sharing the bill with artists and DJs like Quest Love, Madlib, Spacek, Peanut Butter Wolf, Noot d’ Noot, and Wolfmother, and a weekly residency (from 2006 to 2010) at MJQ Concourse Café with DJ partner, DJ Cozy Shawn.

Upstart is the first in a series of EPs to be released by Struk through his label, Sneer Records.
