About Me
These are trying times.

These are dynamic times.

It takes humility, creativity and above all else, it requires courage to produce relatable art which seeks to tackle and address the orchestrations of the beast, while bringing an energy that encourages us to both meet and rise above the dilemmas and machinations designed to divide us. Enter, New Orleans. Enter, The Honorable South.

New Orleans. It has a breath of innocence, a breeze of wonder and cheerfulness that makes us feel younger; a reminder of what it used to be like on the playgrounds of youth. And yet, there exists a simultaneous underlying tone in all the glamour of the Mardi Gras parades, balls, and celebrations, which serve to ground us and remind us of just exactly why we no longer feel so young and conveniently aloof- of why those around us appear corrupted, bigoted, ignorant, and abusive. You can see it in the themes of floats and the vomit in the street. You can see it in the mass-produced t-shirts and the throws left among the heaps of trash lining a route. You can sense it in the smoke and stickiness of the bars and nightclubs, and you can smell it while cruising the sidewalks of the night.

It is precisely this youthful essence The Honorable South seeks to cultivate in the listener: a celebration, a unity, and an awareness of individual significance.

The band was formed in late 2008 by founding members MS. (Charm Taylor), an accomplished educator, vocalist/songwriter and Matthew Rosenbeck, a credited videographer, composer, and guitarist. Since then, THS has steadily refined and developed a progressively sharpened and unique indie and afro-rock sound that is reminiscent of the eclectic blend of Modest Mouse, the raw rock anthem energy of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the feel good verse of Outkast, and the soulful commentary of Nina Simone. THS has evolved to include noted and highly regarded New Orleans percussionist Jamal Batiste (of Jam-All Productions), bassist Jarred “Nation” Savwoir (of Black Star Bangas and the regionally prominent Liberated Soul Collective), and lastly, producer, guitarist, and musical extraordinaire Danny Kartel (DKNO production credits with a wide variety of artists including the late Soulja Slim, Juvenile, Mystikal). Together, they have constructed a sound and a built a movement which has continued to gain momentum since their establishment as a permanent line up in early 2010.

Their first release, the “Dirty in the Light” EP of 2009, affirmatively put the talent and potential of the group on display, and it was a year which saw the band hone their craft playing shows and sets across different venues in the city, and garner sales on the street locally and as far away as the U.K and Japan. The record was characterized by a raw electro-rock feel, and featured singles like “Oh You Call”, “Pressure”, and “Machine”. Throughout this time, the band produced several videos and continued to write new songs in anticipation of recording their first full-length record. More recently, their talents have been recognized by The Libertines drummer and CEO of 25 Hour Convenience Store Records Gary Powell, in an interview with the publication Culture Deluxe Magazine, who stated, they are “an absolute genius sounding band led by an enigmatic female lead singer. They are really adventurous with their approach to writing and performing…” (you read it in full here).2012 finds the band embarking upon a major multi-city U.S. tour and promoting the release of their locally anticipated record,“I Love My Tribe”.

Indeed, 2012 appears to be the year for the coming-out party of the band- a year which will awaken the world to the unapologetic, electric, positive, and positively-New Orleans influenced sound of The Honorable South.
