Upon Seeing Bob Kaufman, I saw Myself...in Gunther Jackson

...You fought, you tried, you failed, you died.  Then, you were born when you saw the sun and it's fading light and sat all through a storm that never came -- instead you were left alone, with your dignity and determination to live to the end of a promise which you did not make and therefore could not break.  It was written that in dreams begin responsibilities – but the hard part is taking the dream into the afternoon sun…and watching it fade with the sinister cover of a five o’clock…See More

Name
Denis Leroy Kangalee (AKA 'THE NOMAD JUNKIE')
About Me
I am a NYC native writer/performance artist, author of "Lying Meat," & 2002 cult film "As an Act of Protest" (which featured the Last Poets) and recently formed theatrical punk band The Children of Warhol to help perform my solo show"Gentrified Minds" -- 'a holy rant' against corporate friendly gentrification. The Children of Warhol became the musical extension of my poetry and theater. We create a sort of "Brechtian" punk-rock music. Raw, urgent, and minimal. Our sound is un-pretentious, slightly offbeat (due to my vocalizing, literally) and theatrical. The initial idea I had in my head was that the Children of Warhol were some discarded musical/spoken word mash up from the 1980's...and forgotten. I like the theatrical and unique, the strange, and the beautiful. I like honest lyrics that struggle for meaning, feeling rather virtuosity, and old guitars. Huge believer in protest and Outside art & irritating the oyster.
You can be my friend if...
You can also walk the walk, believe in passion over pennies, are vehemently anti-racist and anti-oppression, despise Pop Culture, occasionally kick the TV (if you have one), support living poets, have a hearty laugh, believe we need (and still have not had) ANY kind of revolution, see the beauty in a "failed" artistic attempt, are not taken in by film festivals and hype, value love and loyalty, and know when you have to pick your battles -- that it may be your last...but still worth it.

hey there! i checked out your band, and you guys do sound like joy division! it's funny about gentrification, because tonight i was watching permanent vacation(jim jarmusch is my favourite film-maker/person), and it's so sad how big business just sweeps aside history with no compunction. i've seen the same thing happen in london...the marquee, soho, the 100 club, etc. and you mentioned the last poets. back in 88 or 89, i met jamal, and i was going to play guitar for him along with a percussionist, and he just disappeared. keeping it real has never been harder, my brother! keep me informed about your projects, ok? peace!

Hello AfroPunk brethren:

Just performed in Philadelphia -- thanks for the Brotherly Love!...Also, just published latest batch of poems in Europe - through the Outlaw Poetry Network!  (And who ever bought the last copies of "Lying Meat" -- bless you!)

I look forward to getting deep with other bands & artists here and I look forward to hearing some new music, if not a dash of true rebellion.

Keep the blood flowing and the mind wondering.

Love, peace, hair-grease...
