About Me
Me: lots of things. Nkyinkyin! Over-age riot grrl, post-punk goth matron, rogue teacher, hedonist, scholar, respectable homeowner, outsider, Detroit bourgeois girl, swinger, juggalette, Jeopardy contestant, otaku, warrior of peace, ancient childspirit, hopeful cynic, watching from beyond the pale/left behind to tell the tale... well, you get the idea.

Stuff I Like/Do: Anime/manga, wasting time online, sex, the Lifestyle, decorating things, herps & cats, progressive education, gothic culture, re-gracing the swastika, turquoise jewelry, street art (just photo'ing, not actually doing), sci fi/fantasy, Asian cultures, weird history, Human Oddities, coloring books, logic/word puzzles, and just about anything obscure & esoteric. Oh yeah and trying to make myself into a better person. Fair-ta-middln' success on that one.

You can be my friend if...
You are relatively sane, not rude, and not a creepy stalker type. And if you plan to actually communicate with me on a regular basis- I'm seriously not into the random friend-collecting bit. In other words, don't friend me if you aren't going to at least say Namaste once in a while.
Occupation:
Renegade teacher.
Favorite bands:
Black Flag, Butthole Surfers, Johnny Cash, Clutch, Jimi Hendrix, Gary Hoey, Iggy Pop, INSANE CLOWN POSSE, Janis Joplin, KMFDM, Marz, Megadeth, METALLICA, MINISTRY, Natacha Atlas, NICK CAVE, Nine Inch Nails, Project Deadman, Patti Smith, Sultana, TECH N9NE, Tinariwen, Twiztid, Velvet Underground...
Favorite movies:
I don't really like watching most movies. This was apparently a fatal flaw in the eyes of Mainstream Man Ex: "we can't even watch movies together!". It's hard for me to focus on anything for 2 straight hours. And most Hollywood films are like tributes to the mainstream culture that has always scorned me. Basically, for me to enjoy a movie, I would have to enjoy going out drinking with at least one of the characters. Here's a few that I actually like: Fantastic Planet, Freaks, the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Grindhouse, High Plains Drifter, Kill Bill, Kinky Boots, Madame Sata, Naked Gun, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Once Upon a Time In the West, Pan's Labyrinth, The Piano, Repo Man, Quadrophenia, Quills, Superfly, Tampopo, WattStax, Young Frankenstein. Also just about any dark, action-filled anime, & crazy old B movies like Plan Nine from Outer Space, Hell's Angels 69, Fiend Without a Face, and The Brain That Wouldn't Die.
Favorite books:
Pretty much anything by: Iain M. Banks, A.S. Byatt, Angela Carter, Susannah Clarke, Jo Clayton, J. California Cooper, Avram Davidson, Paul diFillipo, Neal Gaiman, William Gibson, Nalo Hopkinson, Tanith Lee, Robert Silverberg, Lucius Shepard, Delia Sherman, Neal Stephenson, Bruce Sterling, Hunter S. Thompson, Jack Vance, Gene Wolfe.

However, lately I seem unable to read anything that doesn't have pictures, so a more honest list would be: Bleach, FrankenFran, HunterxHunter, I Luv Halloween, Jing King of Bandits, Lone Wolf & Cub, Naruto, Qwan, One Piece, Saiyuki, Samurai Deeper Kyo, Shaman King, Van Von Hunter, YuYu Hakusho, Zombie Powder.

Favorite Magazines:
Shonen Jump, Wired, Protoculture, Reptile, Bust, American Legacy
Favorite TV shows:
I don't like TV much, either. But I'm watching a bit more these days thanks to my new DirectTV setup... might as well get my money's worth out of it!. Still mainly Adult Swim: American Dad, ATHF, Family Guy, Metalocalypse, The Oblongs, Robot Chicken, Superjail, and Venture Brothers. Just discovered the Current network and like that a lot. Aside from that, mostly Discover type stuff. Mythbusters, Heavy Haulers, anything along those lines. But please no "reality" shows where people are gratuitously rude to everyone around them. I am also partial to "funny videos" type shows, 'cos you can never watch too many poor hapless bastards getting nailed in the stones. In the immortal words of Haywood Banks, "Trauma to the groin, boys/trauma to the groin/nothing's quite as funny as a trauma to the groin/there is no wit so pretty/there is no joke divine/no limerick delicious as a trauma to the groin". Which will tell the initiated that I'm a faithful listener of the Bob & Tom Show, too.

Most Kick-Ass Anime Series: Afro Samurai, Bleach, FLCL, GITSSAC, Hellsing, Samurai Champloo, Trigun.

Relationship status:
Oh, gawd.
Orientation:
Bi
Zodiac Sign
Western: Pisces (do people still follow that stuff?) Asian: Water tiger
Kids?:
Thank all the gods, no!
Smoke/Drink?
no/yes

YamiNoSensei commented on Afro-Punk's blog post 'Freebie! Collection Of Flyers From Punk Shows 1980-2002 - Minor Threat, Bad Brains & More'
I am jealous... I had a huge collection of flyers from early '80s Michigan punk shows. Pretty sure my then-husband sold them all for dope money back in the '90s. Oh well, I'm glad this sistah was able to take better care of hers than…

As a 49-year old Afro Punk Gothic Hippie from the Black Flag era, this has my seal of approval (I know y'all are impressed LOL). Raw edge and elegant artistry, can't ask for better!

I like my grey hairs 'cos I earned 'em, dammit! But I do wish they were a sleek silvery grey rather than a dull wiry grey. And the grey pubies look kind of weird 'cos they have such a different texture from the rest. Ai well,…

Ick. I have no idea where anyone I went to high school with is now, and can't imagine I have much in common with them. Even then I was very conscious that my high school boyfriends were basically placeholders/practice until I could get the hell…

Way better... especially since I turned 40 and magically started doing the squirt thing. I think it's having reached the "DGAF" point, where I'm not worrying about how I look in action... and knowing how to ask for what I want...…

Those final episodes were a work of art. One of my favorite endings ever and rare because it really ended on the steps of that church. I think we got a glimpse of Faye's emotional side (I loved her character background episodes too, didn't…

Don't we have to be nerds to be here in the first place? And yeah I forgot a few Trigun moments, too. Wolfwood's death scene, but more than that the scene where Legato forces Vash to kill him. The combination of Vash's anguish with…

What about the fight in One Piece, Luffy vs Usopp? It was just sad the whole fight. Gundam has alot of death, but the original was so full of emotion during the first half. When Ramba-Ral blew himself up, when Matilda sacrificed herself to the…

I was having a brain fart. I totally had to go find Outlaw Star's ED1, brought back memories. To think, I was in middleschool when that was on so it was like 10 years ago, time flies. Memories: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMFD_1HnZ5s I had…
