The Bluest Eye is a great book. I read it twice, but couldn't withstand thrice the pain the pain the pain. I'm almost ashamed I'd forgotten about it. Glad to see it on your list.

For Colored Girls is a Disney movie by comparison.

I just reached for the autographed copy I gave my mother now decades ago. I'll buy a plastic zip lock bag today and store the book tonight in a closet, on a high shelf.

The novel made me a follower of Toni Morrison. Before there was Oprah, there was Toni Morrison (thank God...nothing against Oprah, but, GEEZ, what a circus ringleader). I never watched more than say 100 minutes of her entire televised life, but I couldn't escape conversation about her, even when I'd ask my gay former roommate to speak of anything but what Oprah said today from the pulpit. She shits more money than I have hairs on my body...and she's not for me. But she is a Black Beauty, and the Bluest Eye explores the who, what, why, when, where, and how Black Beauties are butchered.

Great book.

The deal with the price of processed food versus other food is since processed food has a longer shelf-life (or death), it is easier for the capitalist to cover the cost of production. Fresh food perishes way too quickly by comparison, so it no where near as profitable as processed food.
