"Embrace being different", familiar words from Rachell Montgomery, a person who constantly bucks the system. Rachell, a lifelong Chicagoan, follows her own heart and her never ending passion for music.
An endless love for diversity in music led Rachell into the competitive world of broadcast radio. Although Rachell’s earliest radio influences range from Herb Kent to The Wolfman to Dr. Demento to Howard Stern it was her intership in Washington, D.C. at WKYS-FM that solidified her careeer path. Upon workign with Radio/Television Icon Donnie Simpson, the original host of BET’s Video Soul, Rachell said, “watching Donnie work was magical… he was so cool and so intelligent...always ahead of the trends. I wanted to be just like that".
Upon receiving her B.A. from Columbia College Chicago, Rachell landed a job at legendary radio station WGCI-FM, where she worked with noted radio personalities Doug Banks and Tom Joyner, now both nationally-syndicated hosts for ABC Radio Networks. Rachell has also lent her talents at Chicago radio stations-WXRT-FM, WSCR-AM, WVAZ-FM, WPWX-FM and WSRB-FM.
While working on The Jenny Jones show, Rachell was bitten by the television bug and developed her own local entertainment program "THE ULTIMATE-TV". THE ULTIMATE, Chicago's only Urban Alternative music show is seen by 1 million viewers on Chicago Access Network Television in Chicago(CAN-TV ). "THE ULTIMATE" recognizes African-American artists whose music is ignored by the record labels and/or traditional radio.
Currently, Rachell has begun teaching a radio broadcasting courses at Illinois School of Broadcasting and classes she created for Kennedy-King College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago. On teaching, Rachell believes “it's sinful to waste the gifts God has given so why not shared them with the people”.
Rachell is THE ULTIMATE fun-loving, passionate and insightful being...the embodiment of "Change is Good"!!
