Five Sundance Festival Films To Watch Out For
With the recent release of Red Tails, there has been a lot of discussion about the ongoing lack of people of color in Hollywood and what to do about it. It’s cute that George Lucas thinks he can change the game with some awesome special effects (wrapped in a gossamer-thin plot), but finding a place in the mainstream market with big-budget blockbusters is really just as well. What I think is also important, more important, is making sure that those smaller, more…

With my trusty MP 3 video downloader I downloaded a video of the classic Eric Burton and the Animals's song, We gotta get out of this place. It was part of a segment of a documentry on the British Invasion of the early 60.'s when British bands like the Beatles and Rolling Stones first hit US shores.
What's intresting about this Animals clip is it is introduced by Casy Casem_ the other Dick Clark_ and in his intro he gives the black influence on rock it's props, mentioning…

A New 'Black Wave' Breaking Grounds In Cinema!
There's a new 'Black Wave' in cinema that got us really excited, guys! These movies show different sides of the Black experience and often deal with sensitive subjects. By now you know we're big fans of 'Pariah' (directed by Dee Rees), as we've been supporting the film way before it blew up.
And there are many more gems coming out or making the festival rounds: for example,…

Tha Ramblings of Tha Original Gata (A little food for thought)
Its really easy to sit and talk about someone.
The real challenge comes when its time to really look at what you reflect back in that mirror. Most find themselves speechless

So I guess I settle
I always tend to settle. Why? I dunno. It's just my personality. So after dating many white guys, I knew deep down in my heart that I wanted to be with a black man. The only problem...I had nothing in common with black guys. They all thought I was weird and liked weird music with screaming and what-not. I didn't know all the cool dances and I didn't use the latest slang. I was like the anti-black girl. But how?! I was still black!!!! So when I met a black guy that didn't complain that much…

Follow The Dollar, Follow Where It Bleeds
Smallpox & polio are on the verge of eradication for years now, only because it was affecting the young and the innocent within American suburbia. Anything that effects an undesirable population (gays, blacks, elderly) is less than a concern.
Follow the misappropriation of the HIV/AIDS epidemic,…

Confessions of a Black Dominatrix - Part 2: Race Play?
What's your fantasy? I recall seeing Spike Lee’s 1996 film Girl 6 when I was much younger than I am now. I’ve always been a fan of Spike Lee’s flicks, but Girl 6 to me remains one of his more unsung pieces, and still no DVD release? Shame on you, Spike. For those who are not familiar with Girl 6 it starred the drop dead gorgeous Theresa Randall as an actress down on her luck and in dire straits. Unable to find a steady paying acting gig, she responds…
