You've been waiting for it: 'Color Outside The Lines', the documentary about Black tattoo artists, has been released this week. Directed by Artemus Jenkins and produced by Miya Bailey, the film is available on DVD: click here to get it.
"For over 5 years the idea has always been in [Bailey]'s head to create a film that not only sheds light on the artform, but also…
We'd like to hear news like that every freaking day: UK rock/pop duo Noisettes' album 'Contact' will be released August 27th, preceded by first single 'Winner' on August 13th. In the meanwhile, here's the artwork for the LP + behind-the-scenes footage of the upcoming 'Winner' video (+ in case you missed it a snippet from the song). xo

Baron's latest EP RadioHeart accomplishes the almost impossible by seeming “retro” without actually conjuring a specific time or genre. It's a grab-bag of electro sounds past. There are bits of early 80s Depeche Mode, late 80s Nine Inch Nails, Old-school Chicago House, Soulsonic Force era Afrika Bambaataa, early 90s Jock Jams pop, and even some awesome touches of mid-90s game music (bonus points if the Purple Motion references were intentional. They totally validate…Continue
Always dope to come across talented under-the-radar designers. So when young, freshly graduated artist Amina Martucci hit us up about her knitwear collections (including one called 'Strange Fruit', we assume named after the classic song made famous by Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and more), we had to check them out. And we were not disappointed.
She told us: "I've been following Afropunk for a while now, and I love how it is so rich in culture! I've just recently graduated…
Afropunk members DarqMatter's latest LP is all about the many textures of rage. From the mutated metal of opening track 'ElektroMagnetik' to the waves of industrial ambiance on 'Shipped Across Seas,' Motionfix and LUNZ have yet to find a sound that didn't need more reverb and distortion.
They've largely ditched the jungle-beats from their first full…
Hey guys, we mentioned the 'Black Girl In Suburbia' documentary-in-the-making to you before. Additional footage, a "sneak peek", has surfaced (scroll down to watch). In case you missed it, we're re-posting the trailer too.
"Black Girl In Suburbia is a feature documentary that looks into the experiences of black girls growing up in predominately white communities. This is a different look into suburbia from the perspective of women of color (...) exploring through…

AP Quickie! Frank Ocean revealed the artwork and tracklist for is upcoming album 'Channel Orange' (due out July 17th). Among the guests: Andre 3000, Odd Future colleague Earl Sweatshirt and... John Mayer. Check it out below, and in case you missed it, grab a free download of (nearly 10-minute long) first single 'Pyramids', which surfaced earlier this month.
British indie soul-rock outfit The Heavy have a new single out, and it's huge. On their 3rd album the band “wanted to make a bold statement – it’s not shy.” The orchestral swoops add a level of epicness when matched with Spencer Page's distorted bass indie thump. Singer Kelvin Swaby describes it saying “We went pretty cinematic, setting out to score a film that hasn’t been written.” I'd be surprised if filmmakers don't take them up on it later this year. This is the rare sort of…Continue
Summer's finally here and The Dirtbombs have a new single! It's been 4 years since the Detroit garage legends played Afropunk fest. Since then they've lost a member, recorded an album of Detroit techno covers, and apparently fallen in love, or gotten a puppy, or something. The new song 'Crazy For You' shows a softer side of the venerable garage band. Playing like a lost Matthew Sweet track, or maybe early Lenny Kravitz, the…Continue

BMX aficionados! Time to get inspired. Watch these stunning new visuals of Nigel Sylvester on a BMX trip to the Dominican Republic (courtesy of his sponsor G-Shock). "The Dominican Republic sounds like one of the most unlikely places you would think to travel to for a BMX trip but Nigel Sylvester and G-Shock prove it to be a undiscovered gem in their first visual release of 2012. Between all the hustle and bustle, crowded city streets, DR offers incredible riding spots and…Continue
Hey! I am Ms. K and I am living in Brooklyn, NY. I grew up in Germany with a German mum and a Ghanaian dad. African cloth and prints were always part of our home and my life. Today we'll be talking about Bombe Surprise, a label from London. The collection and designs are inspired by the wax prints that designer Nina Ribena saw at one of London's many markets and the multicultural vibe of the city itself. Even though some of the designs might be a little too crazy for myself, I…Continue
